9 & 10 News May 6, 2021 Clare County deputies Huckstein, Parks, Heugel, and Guthrie, along with dispatcher Melissa Schmidt are being honored for saving a man from taking his own life. On Apr. 28 at approximately 2:49 a.m. central dispatch received a call about a man on an overpass with a noose around his neck, preparing to jump. Deputies were able to talk the man off of the ledge and transported him to a nearby hospital. The Clare County Sheriff’s Department says they have seen many suicides and drug overdoses in the past year, and say they are here to help those in need no matter who it is.
