The Heaphy Shield was set up in 1976, with one player competing in his 41st consecutive tournament.
Marlborough Squash has successfully defended the Heaphy Shield in Blenheim, dropping only three matches at weekend, to win by a record 29 matches against Nelson’s 17 matches and West Coast 2 matches.
The NBS Nelson Bays team didn’t get the strong start they hoped for and lacked the depth needed to match a very strong Marlborough women’s team, who didn’t drop a match all weekend.
However, Nelson Bays should take heart from a strong performance against the West Coast and some very good wins against the Marlborough men over the weekend.
