CMPD: Driver Faces Charges In Fatal South Charlotte Hit-And-Run July 9, 2021 CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives say a Honda driver is facing charges for his involvement in a fatal collision in south Charlotte where he fled the scene. Detectives got warrants for Maynor Garcia-Zelaya on Friday, the Honda driver, that will charge him with Felony Hit & Run, Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle, and Driving While License Revoked for his involvement. Officers say they initially responded to the collision between the Honda Civic and a motorcycle on Monday, June 28th around 9 p.m. on South Tryon Street. The motorcycle driver, 35-year-old Clifton Chapman, was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital following the crash.
