We are told with the parents who are here today, as this event, he has spoken to them by the fall by foot before. But tonight theyre here so we have were not sure if theyre going to come out with the former president , his advisers were on that, but we do know that they gave her mission for the campaign to use a picture of her on a poster that is being distributed. So nice to people at the audience in a police photo and the phrase, say her name. So this is a continuation of the Conference Plantation and immigration politics the union ansible Donald Trumps supporters in the congress flashing during that speech over immigration and over laken rileys death. Clearly that is continuing tonight. This is a window into how president tom, tom is going to campaign over the next eight months. This is not only a message that they hope resonates here in georgia, but in other swing states now, obviously in this room, it is a message that as well received and likely in this area of the state as well. This is a part of that it struck a Congress Biden marginal conservative firebrand republican. But whether or not that message sways the voters that will decide this election in the atlanta suburbs. Well, that remains to be seen in talking to republican strategists here, they remain worried that trump is incredibly divisive especially when it comes to relitigate the 2020 election and whether he can avoid that on the campaign trail, who may suffer sinema be seen. And so far in his first appearance has a presumptive nominee. We have seen little changed from him, but he came out tonight to speak to the jan. Sixth choir of individuals who are arrested for the role in the jan. Sixth attack on the us capitol. That is something he did throughout the campaign when he was running for the lamination now hes the presumptive nominee, is still going out to that same us and just moments ago, we saw staff at that rally handing out the portrait of laken riley to supporters there. Steve, of course, one of the many legal troubles and cases that the former president is facing is in georgia but hes been trying politically, fundraising off them. To what extent do you think hes going to georgia quite a bit, alex, i mean, there are many people here who are wearing the mug shot on their shirts obviously this is something that he has talked about quite a bit, not just in georgia and but in many other states. So yes, he will be definitely be talking about fani willis here. The District Attorney of Fulton County. Prosecutor, and that is something that obviously gets his base going but he has trouble in georgia in every election since his 2020 loss for the candidates he supported have lost the republicans, who has spoken out against the election in regard rhetoric that he uses, they have been victorious. So itll be interesting to see whether or not his continued and continued to harp on what happened in 2020 one hurts him here in georgia where people are a lot of people are actually sick of that message all right. What do you make of trump . Marjorie Taylor Greene at the State Of The Union and other republicans, making this a rallying call. And really such a focal point on the campaign trail. Its certainly not the first time that weve seen this in politics. We only have to go back to 1988 where we had this really famous situation where Willie Horton was a convicted murderer or massachusetts, he was furloughed, he was allowed out for the weekend. And when he did so, he ended up raping somebody creating assault and there was Armed Robbery what the George Hw Bush campaign was able to effectively do is to paint the Massachusetts Governor michael dukakis, who was supportive of this Furlough Program to look soft on crime. So thats exactly what youre seeing right there. Youre seeing a double edged sword right there, that the Biden Campaign is going to have to face trouble at the border and the crime that may be associated with it. Now we do know that the Crime Associated with it isnt necessarily any higher than any other kind of Crime Statistics throughout the country. But the fact of the matter is, is that trump is effectively making this an issue as are republicans. Larry, what do you make of the fact that they are making this an issue . This comes down to security the border and it was essentially trump who singlehandedly torque pete owed a bill that would have, as democrats have repeatedly said, impose some of the strictest security and the harshest measures at the border that weve ever seen. Well, thats exactly what the democratic response should be theres, theres no question that immigration in the border are the weaknesses that one of the principal weaknesses, at least for joe biden and the democrats, but they were recently given a gift and unfortunate gift and ugly gift. But a gift nonetheless thats politically when almost singlehandedly, donald trump seung, that reform, that reform bill that had been bipartisan, where a number of very conservative republicans in the senate in particular, had worked on it. And who by the way, are personally unhappy about what trump did. They may not speak out publicly, but thats how they feel. What a great gift to biden. Because now he can say we had a solution. I worked hard on the solution. We brought both parties together just like americans want. And donald trump killed it because he wanted a campaign issue. He didnt want to solve the problem that happens to be the truth, which adds to the impressive pnas of the issue. All right. Shes covering the president , priscilla President Biden just wrapping up his remarks there in atlanta. What did they have to say . Well, be laid out his domestic accomplishments. He ticked through a number of key issues for voters. This election cycle, including reproductive rights, be economy voting rights, and above all, kicking off his remarks we the Bachar Status has been the theme of his campaign protecting democracy. And he acknowledged that former President Donald Trump was just up the road 60 miles from here and talks about the former president s coziness with authoritarians and really stressed that he is going to protect democracy. And i have to tell you alex and talk lena voters in the crowd just before the president s of the stapes. This was clearly top of mind for them as well. And all of them had really been excited about what they had seen at the State Of The Union thursday, and this was a president that got onstage and clearly tried to capitalize on that moment. He invoked the State Of The Union. The crowd erupted into cheers, clearly excited by what they had seen, but there was also realities that the president basis thats still were here today and that is that the president still have to navigate this complicated Political Landscape when it comes do the israel hamas war, just minutes into his speech, he was interrupted by a protester who was calling, who said genocide. Joe, take a listen to the plant thank you thank you now youve heard there, of course, the chants of four more years, but the reality that the president has campaigned still basis that there are fractures within the coalition thats an example of one. So it is incumbent on the president and according to democratic strategists, to shore up the Diverse Coalition and makes sure they show up for the polls in november. That is really going to be the uphill battle here in georgia where there arent those key statewide races that before bolstered Voter Turnout, Voter Turnout is going to hinge on enthusiasm for President Joe Biden. And of course, alex is that that President Biden only narrowly won in 2020 when he tried to do today. Here was energized the crowd to come out and vote for him again to notch another democratic win in a state in november of this year . All right. Mark, what do you make of how the president in the campaign are handling these hecklers . I mean, broadly, the administration is stepping up its criticism of israel, but its clear that so many of his supporters are saying that he hasnt gone far enough right . And he was also very clear in an interview today where he said that he is not going to abandon israel he stands with israel. Look the problem for the Biden Campaign over the next few months is not that necessarily that hes going to lose support from muslims and palestinians who are upset about whats happening right now in gaza with a real concern is when thats starts to spread and we saw that a little bit in these past primaries, where we saw a Younger Voters who are catching on to that same message, where now theyve are upset by what is happening now over in gaza. And even progressives as well. So when it, when it goes beyond that and it spreads, thats what the real problem is for the Biden Campaign larry, specifically on georgia. This is a state that he won in 2020 by fewer than 12,000 votes. Weve seen support slipping, particularly among black voters in georgia. It is such a close race there in that allimportant swing state. So whats going to determine who wins georgia this year . National trends is as much as a local or state trends. We got a long way to go eight months of campaigning, eight months of issues. There could be. We all hope i solid the cease fire in the middle east. There could be, we all hope release of hostages there you dont know whats going to happen in any of them . Those big situations, but theyll also be other developments its, its true that that right now theres an Ab Benefitting donald trump, but i think thats one of the reasons why biden was stressing democracy just i think it was last night. Donald trump had dinner at maralago with viktor orban the authoritarian from hungary, look at the good things he said about Vladimir Putin and attacking nato and the dictators and north korea and china and a couple in south america. And i could go on and on. Its a real issue and it affects everybody, not just college, educated hated suburbanites. So there are some issues that favor one side. There are some issues that favor the other side. And a lots going to change between now and november 5. Marc, that meeting with orban, who is essentially synonymous with a top see in europe why does trump think that thats going to help him here . Well, its not even just trump. I mean, it is the Republican Party as we know it, its the maga part of the Republican Party. They have embraced it to conservative Political Action conference now has grown. Cpac has grown to where now they go overseas and these american Political Consultants are overseas hosting these political conferences with these authoritarian dictators. Look the fact of the matter is that is somebody that trump looks up to. We saw him talk about it with Vladimir Putin. He continues to do so. He seems to gravitate towards those who are autocrats or dare i say, dictators. And thats who he feels most comfortable saying the quiet part out loud that people who have a firmer control, dictatorial tendencies in their country. Those are the ones that he respected facts i want to play a little bit of a new campaign ad that the Biden Campaign is out with the president joking about his age. Lets take a look look, im not a young guy. Thats so secret. But heres the deal. I understand how to get things done for the American People. Look, im very young, energetic, enhanced them. What tell him i doing this for now, weve heard plenty of pundits say that this is how biden needs to address the issue. Do it with humor, but then we saw the Trump Campaign respond pretty quickly with a video of their own look, im not a young guy thats to see larry, do you think that that is the right approach the buck by the Biden Campaign. And what do you make of the response . Well, its exactly what wed expect for the next eight months. Youre going to have a lot of for tat and including that issue of age and ability to serve another four years. But in a sense, both candidates are vulnerable on parts of that and both candidates have made public gaffes that will be used over and over. But on buying i didnt say that i saw that early this morning. I thought it was incredibly effective ad. Yes, selfdeprecating humor is not used nearly enough in politics. The two best at it, who really used it . Well, were john f. Kennedy, a democrat and ronald reagan, a republican while i dont think anybody would say donald trump is good at selfdeprecating humor joe biden might want to focus on those two prior president s, jfk and reagan because thats the right approach. It doesnt completely answer the attack, but at least gives people a chuckle and they might move on to the substantive issues that were in the finance. Everybody is skipping over the substantive part in which he listed the accomplishments very serious accomplishments of his administration. So great way to package the tough stuff, the good stuff, with some humor. Well, as you know eight months ago and we can expect a lot more of both these kinds of things in the coming months. When President Joe Biden was speaking after the State Of The Union about israeli Prime Minister benjamin netanyahu. Lets take a listen to that shes. Are just good job there. The president talking about needing a come to jesus moment with netanyahu. Hes now talking about red lines. You didnt detail them, but what does that tell you about how hes feeling about the israeli leadership and Prime Minister netanyahu right now. Yeah, alex, look clearly the president is incredible really frustrated. He has been consistently behind the scenes telling Prime Minister netanyahu that he wants israel to have a credible plan for the day after and to take care of civilian life. And its obviously the president doesnt see that happening. And so i think what hes getting at now and hes been pushing it publicly. I got to tell you, alex, ive never seen before in American Press president be so publicly tough on israel in a venue like the State Of The Union that was unique. And hes making it clear that he has been supportive of Israeli Security as it should be, but that Prime Minister netanyahu has to be responsive and he doesnt feel like the Prime Minister has been enough. We have seen former president s, republican president s, including president reagan, be critical of israel and scale back american support for israel. So were here, were hearing this increased pressure. But how do you expect the president to ramp that up and to deal with what we saw tonight, which is this dissatisfaction among the Political Base over his support for israel yeah. No, its an incredibly difficult balancing act. And what the president is doing is laying out a vision for how to get to an end point. And that end point in his mind is a twostate solution. But to get there means a temporary ceasefire. It means in integrating a Palestinian Leadership into running gaza, bringing the international community, having the deal where the hostages are released for increased humanitarian assistance to the gazan people. All of that wrapped together. Thats the vision. Thats what hes trying to get across to the israeli leadership and the israeli people who by the way deeply disapprove of Prime Minister netanyahus leadership. Hes at 15 and polling, he knows it. The number two essentially in his government, benny gantz a member of his war cabinet, was here in washington. It very much upset Prime Minister netanyahu and it should have because there are alternatives to him. And i think the president and his team are very smart and laying out a vision that provides for longterm peace and security while still supporting putting israel overall as a key ally. But where netanyahu and the majority of israelis are on the same page is aid for gaza. And the reluctance to send more aid into gaza, which israelis Accused Hamas of stealing a lot of. So israel has been reluctant to open up more Border Crossings to allow that aid in which the us has been calling for. What do you make of the us now being forced to air drop aid and build this pier which could take months and 1,000 us troops. What does that say about the lack of sway essentially that the us, it has currently with israel i think it says what we saw from the president right there on the floor of the house, which is he is frustrated. Hes not getting through. Its a premise you nothing yahoo, what he believes needs to be done regarding aid to palestinians and there is deep concern as well that this starving of the palestinians is in some way being used as leverage depression mr. Hamas, to release the hostages to come for a deal thats not the way this should be conducted. And the president unfortunately, from a humanitarian perspective, doesnt have a lot of cards to play. So hes putting our forces in our assets straight into the field. And i have to say to add to this, this needs to be embarrassing for the Israeli Defense forces to have the American Military have to go into a country to a territory that Israel Controls and provide aid to those civilians that israel itself should be supporting and feeding. Thats a real sign of discomfort. And frankly, disappointment in the Israeli Defense forces. You would think the us might have more cards supply given the extraordinary level of military aid that the us ascent israel over the years but President Biden warned in the past few days that if there were not a Ceasefire Deal in place by ramadan, things could be very, very dangerous. Ramadan is believed to start tomorrow night and it doesnt look like that deal is going to be in place. What do you think could happen during this holy month . Well, a couple of things still look out for. First is provocateur nmr ben gvir in the israeli cabinet, calling for preventing palestinians, for example, from going to theyre hamas sharif to the religious site at the temple mount that needs to be stopped, but i do think negotiations are going to continue. Theres no Expiration Date for these negotiations. The hostages need to be released. Hamas needs to agree to their release. So thats going to continue. But will the spoilers will hamas potentially try to set on fire the west bank and will ben gvir tried to create the diner on to temple mount that could lead to more violence, could that undermine such negotiations . Thats really what we have to watch out for. Its certainly a calculation that many think hamas is making, that its actually in their benefit to inflame things further, draw more in the west bank. And not just things like economic freedoms and that means how are we . Creating pathways for people to be able to have a real measurement of economic mobility and own more than they owe and pass something off to their children besides debt. But it also is important to talk about social freedoms Reproductive Health and reproductive freedoms and when were talking about patriotism, that does matter in the president , we have a person who has devoted his life too. Public service. A person has devoted his life to supporting others. A persons have voted his life to being able to make sure that all of our neighbors are protected and truthfully. Hes running against some somebody who the only freedom hes talking about is his own. The only future that hes talking about is his own future. So i do think its important for the president to be able to highlight the important its a freedoms inside this moment and how its necessary for us to have a leader, a president , and a commander in chief, whos going to fight for our freedoms instead of a Command Tender and chief and a president whos going to spend his whole time fighting for his own. We also have the former president in georgia. He just wrapped up a rally in rome, georgia. And during that event, he brought up the death of laken riley, who was also mentioned by the president in the state of the us laken was allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant. This is what President Biden said. Just a President Trump rather former President Trump said just moments ago we share your grief. Thank you, darling. Thank you thank you very much we appreciate it. I know how tough it is. So tough we vowed to keep lakens memory alive for as long as we are here in this area than we take comfort that she is now home with god and heaven. What do you make the Trump Campaign making this a focal point, this looks like something that theyre going to continue to bring up well, i think the president said it during the State Of The Union as a father whos lost his child. I think the president i understands the pain and he hes hes leading with a sense of not just sympathy, but a real sense of empathy. This is personal for the president and i think its why the president has been so sincere about making sure that we have to get real Border Reform and real Immigration Reform side of our country. The president worked with republicans conservative republicans on putting together a border bill, that was eventually killed by the speaker of the house and other members and extreme members of the Republican Party. And so i think the president understands how important it is. And as a governor, i can tell you how important is that we get a congress that is willing to act on this . Because we as Chief Executives in our own states, end up dealing with the consequences of it. But it does not seem like democrats so far able to dismantle moments like this by simply saying, donald trump almost singlehandedly torpedoed a border bill while while, and what you just said is exactly the truth. There was a bill, there was a deal ideal that the president negotiated between both democrats and republicans in the congress.
