This is a part of that it struck a Congress Biden marginal conservative firebrand republican. But whether or not that message sways the voters that will decide this election in the atlanta suburbs. Well, that remains to be seen in talking to republican strategists here, they remain worried that trump is incredibly divisive especially when it comes to relitigate the 2020 election and whether he can avoid that on the campaign trail, who may suffer sinema be seen. And so far in his first appearance has a presumptive nominee. We have seen little changed from him, but he came out tonight to speak to the jan. To what extent do you think hes going to georgia quite a bit, alex, i mean, there are many people here who are wearing the mug shot on their shirts obviously this is something that he has talked about quite a bit, not just in georgia and but in many other states. So yes, he will be definitely be talking about fani willis here. The District Attorney of Fulton County. Prosecutor, and that is something that obviously gets his base going but he has trouble in georgia in every election since his 2020 loss for the candidates he supported have lost the republicans, who has spoken out against the election in regard rhetoric that he uses, they have been victorious. So itll be interesting to see whether or not his continued and continued to harp on what happened in 2020 one hurts him here in georgia where people are a lot of people are actually sick of that message all right. What do you make of trump . Marjorie Taylor Greene at the State Of The Union and other republicans, making this a rallying call. And really such a focal point on the campaign trail. Its certainly not the first time that weve seen this in politics. We only have to go back to 1988 where we had this really famous situation where Willie Horton was a convicted murderer or massachusetts, he was furloughed, he was allowed out for the weekend. And when he did so, he ended up raping somebody creating assault and there was Armed Robbery what the George Hw Bush campaign was able to effectively do is to paint the Massachusetts Governor michael dukakis, who was supportive of this Furlough Program to look soft on crime. So thats exactly what youre seeing right there. Youre seeing a double edged sword right there, that the Biden Campaign is going to have to face trouble at the border and the crime that may be associated with it. Now we do know that the Crime Associated with it isnt necessarily any higher than any other kind of Crime Statistics throughout the country. But the fact of the matter is, is that trump is effectively making this an issue as are republicans. Larry, what do you make of the fact that they are making this an issue . This comes down to security the border and it was essentially trump who singlehandedly torque pete owed a bill that would have, as democrats have repeatedly said, impose some of the strictest security and the harshest measures at the border that weve ever seen. Well, thats exactly what the democratic response should be theres, theres no question that immigration in the border are the weaknesses that one of the principal weaknesses, at least for joe biden and the democrats, but they were recently given a gift and unfortunate gift and ugly gift. But a gift nonetheless thats politically when almost singlehandedly, donald trump seung, that reform, that reform bill that had been bipartisan, where a number of very conservative republicans in the senate in particular, had worked on it. And who by the way, are personally unhappy about what trump did. They may not speak out publicly, but thats how they feel. What a great gift to biden. Because now he can say we had a solution. I worked hard on the solution. We brought both parties together just like americans want. And donald trump killed it because he wanted a campaign issue. He didnt want to solve the problem that happens to be the truth, which adds to the impressive pnas of the issue. All right. He ticked through a number of key issues for voters. This election cycle, including reproductive rights, be economy voting rights, and above all, kicking off his remarks we the Bachar Status has been the theme of his campaign protecting democracy. And he acknowledged that former President Donald Trump was just up the road 60 miles from here and talks about the former president s coziness with authoritarians and really stressed that he is going to protect democracy. And i have to tell you alex and talk lena voters in the crowd just before the president s of the stapes. This was clearly top of mind for them as well. And all of them had really been excited about what they had seen at the State Of The Union thursday, and this was a president that got onstage and clearly tried to capitalize on that moment. He invoked the State Of The Union. The crowd erupted into cheers, clearly excited by what they had seen, but there was also realities that the president basis thats still were here today and that is that the president still have to navigate this complicated Political Landscape when it comes do the israel hamas war, just minutes into his speech, he was interrupted by a protester who was calling, who said genocide. Joe, take a listen to the plant thank you thank you now youve heard there, of course, the chants of four more years, but the reality that the president has campaigned still basis that there are fractures within the coalition thats an example of one. So it is incumbent on the president and according to democratic strategists, to shore up the Diverse Coalition and makes sure they show up for the polls in november. That is really going to be the uphill battle here in georgia where there arent those key statewide races that before bolstered Voter Turnout, Voter Turnout is going to hinge on enthusiasm for President Joe Biden. And of course, alex is that that President Biden only narrowly won in 2020 when he tried to do today. Here was energized the crowd to come out and vote for him again to notch another democratic win in a state in november of this year . All right. Mark, what do you make of how the president in the campaign are handling these hecklers . I mean, broadly, the administration is stepping up its criticism of israel, but its clear that so many of his supporters are saying that he hasnt gone far enough right . And he was also very clear in an interview today where he said that he is not going to abandon israel he stands with israel. Look the problem for the Biden Campaign over the next few months is not that necessarily that hes going to lose support from muslims and palestinians who are upset about whats happening right now in gaza with a real concern is when thats starts to spread and we saw that a little bit in these past primaries, where we saw a Younger Voters who are catching on to that same message, where now theyve are upset by what is happening now over in gaza. And even progressives as well. So when it, when it goes beyond that and it spreads, thats what the real problem is for the Biden Campaign larry, specifically on georgia. This is a state that he won in 2020 by fewer than 12,000 votes. Weve seen support slipping, particularly among black voters in georgia. It is such a close race there in that allimportant swing state. So whats going to determine who wins georgia this year . National trends is as much as a local or state trends. We got a long way to go eight months of campaigning, eight months of issues. There could be. We all hope i solid the cease fire in the middle east. There could be, we all hope release of hostages there you dont know whats going to happen in any of them . Those big situations, but theyll also be other developments its, its true that that right now theres an Ab Benefitting donald trump, but i think thats one of the reasons why biden was stressing democracy just i think it was last night. Donald trump had dinner at maralago with viktor orban the authoritarian from hungary, look at the good things he said about Vladimir Putin and attacking nato and the dictators and north korea and china and a couple in south america. And i could go on and on. Its a real issue and it affects everybody, not just college, educated hated suburbanites. So there are some issues that favor one side. There are some issues that favor the other side. And a lots going to change between now and november 5. Marc, that meeting with orban, who is essentially synonymous with a top see in europe why does trump think that thats going to help him here . Well, its not even just trump. I mean, it is the Republican Party as we know it, its the maga part of the Republican Party. They have embraced it to conservative Political Action conference now has grown. Cpac has grown to where now they go overseas and these american Political Consultants are overseas hosting these political conferences with these authoritarian dictators. Look the fact of the matter is that is somebody that trump looks up to. We saw him talk about it with Vladimir Putin. He continues to do so. He seems to gravitate towards those who are autocrats or dare i say, dictators. And thats who he feels most comfortable saying the quiet part out loud that people who have a firmer control, dictatorial tendencies in their country. Those are the ones that he respected facts i want to play a little bit of a new campaign ad that the Biden Campaign is out with the president joking about his age. Lets take a look look, im not a young guy. Thats so secret. But heres the deal. I understand how to get things done for the American People. Look, im very young, energetic, enhanced them. What tell him i doing this for now, weve heard plenty of pundits say that this is how biden needs to address the issue. Do it with humor, but then we saw the Trump Campaign respond pretty quickly with a video of their own look, im not a young guy thats to see larry, do you think that that is the right approach the buck by the Biden Campaign. And what do you make of the response . Well, its exactly what wed expect for the next eight months. Youre going to have a lot of for tat and including that issue of age and ability to serve another four years. But in a sense, both candidates are vulnerable on parts of that and both candidates have made public gaffes that will be used over and over. But on buying i didnt say that i saw that early this morning. I thought it was incredibly effective ad. Yes, selfdeprecating humor is not used nearly enough in politics. The two best at it, who really used it . Well, were john f. Kennedy, a democrat and ronald reagan, a republican while i dont think anybody would say donald trump is good at selfdeprecating humor joe biden might want to focus on those two prior president s, jfk and reagan because thats the right approach. It doesnt completely answer the attack, but at least gives people a chuckle and they might move on to the substantive issues that were in the finance. Everybody is skipping over the substantive part in which he listed the accomplishments very serious accomplishments of his administration. So great way to package the tough stuff, the good stuff, with some humor. Well, as you know eight months ago and we can expect a lot more of both these kinds of things in the coming months.
