Good morning and welcome to cnn this morning, it is sunday, march 10. Them, Isabel Rosales and grammar walker. Im victor blackwell. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. Were following Breaking News out of haiti. The state Department Says its evacuating nonessential personnel from the us embassy because of heightened Gang Violence. Cnns Patrick Oppmann is joining us live from the phone. Patrick, when did this start . So overnight last night, we know a us Military Helicopter did travel under the cover of darkness to portauprince, haiti and evacuated. We dont know how many, but us diplomats were told only us diplomats were evacuated from from the embassy because the ongoing civil unrest in haiti, Gang Violence that is essentially brought that country to a standstill, has made it too dangerous to have the embassy fully staffed. So theyre not closing the us embassy in portauprince, certainly. But they are reducing the footprint that number of spats there. And really the only way to get people out of haiti by air at this point is by helicopter and of course i had to do it at night because weve seen gang members are these powerful, well armed gangs. And now essentially ruled the country. Shooting at airplanes had the airport in portauprince closed down for the better part of a week now. And it just speaks to how dangerous the situation is that the us embassy located in the area of portauprince . Thats really one of the safer areas because of all the armed guards and and the heavy Police Presence under under normal times it does become so dangerous that the us military, the Us Government, has had to take this step of evacuating us diplomats under the cover of darkness in a us Military Helicopter to just really reduce the number of personnel that are there and are currently at risk. Patrick oppmann for us there reporting on the evacuation at the us embassy. Thanks so much. President biden and former President Trump traded jabs saturday and dueling rallies in georgia with both presumptive Party Nominees giving us a glimpse into what the sequel to their 2020 election will look like. And judging by what we saw yesterday, that race could sound a lot of like like the old one. Yeah. Biden kicked off his Battleground States swing in atlanta, where he acknowledged that his rivals rally was just 60 miles up the road and rome drunk, did not hold back at his attacks on biden. He called biden state of the Union Address and angry, dark hate it filled rant about biden slammed trump on who he keeps company with, pointing to Trump Holding his rally with farright representative Marjorie Taylor greene heres the guy is kicking off his general Election Campaign in the road up with Marjorie Taylor greene can tell you a lot about a person who keeps company with whiteout presidency, what up the most incompetent president weve ever had the worst president , the most incompetent and the most corrupt. Other than that, i think hes doing actually quite a good job President Biden is also confronting two of his biggest political vulnerabilities. His age, and his stance on israel and gaza. Cnn, White House Correspondent camila do chalice joins us now from wilmington, delaware. Camila biden spoke about his israel policy in an interview released yesterday what did he have to say about it well, one of the biggest things that came out of this interview was that by even made it clear that he Still Believes its possible for israel and hamas to broker a temporary ceasefire deal. But so far those talks have stalled. Now he also made it clear that he wants israel to put more procedures and steps in place to protect innocent civilian lives in gaza. What continues out its military operations take a quick listen of what biden had to say an interview yesterday well one of the things that biden really emphasize is that even though that they want by the israel too protect innocent civilian lives, he also remain firm that hes going to support israel and how biden is still facing a lot of backlash over how hes handling the israel Hamas Conflict. And so that is going to be one of the big challenges. Hes going to face as he runs for reelection. Isabel victor amina. Thank you very much for your time and trumps first rally since emerging as a Presumptive Republican president ial nominee, he wasted no time criticizing biden, state of the Union Address, calling it partisan and angry, or trump also attack bidens response to the murder of 22 yearold Nursing Student laken riley ive trump met with rileys parents backstage before his rally. Cnn, Steve Contorno is in rome, georgia with more force. Former President Donald Trump held a rally saturday in rome, georgia. His versus becoming Presumptive Republican president ial nominee. He wasted little time in his remarks going after joe biden in fact, he also made fun of bidens delivery of his speech at the state of the Union Tonight to go, we all heard took joes angry dark, hatefilled rant of a state of the Union Address wasnt it didnt it bring us together emerging border, bring the country together. Joe biden should not be shouting angrily at america. America should be shouting angrily at joe biden a major focus of trumps remarks was on the situation at the us Southern Border and ahead of his remarks, he met with the family of laken riley, that is the 22 yearold Nursing Student who is killed in georgia allegedly by an undocumented man. Trump also criticized President Biden for saying that he shouldnt have used the word illegal to describe that individual. And i say he was an illegal alien. He was an illegal immigrant. He was an illegal migrant and he shouldnt have been in our country and he never would have been under the trump policy. Biden, you should be apologizing for apologizing to this killer. Trumps visit. This georgia is the first of many expected in the coming months, the peach state is gonna be one of the top battlegrounds in the 2024 election its one trump lost by less than 12,000 votes four years ago. And his team knows is going to be close to this go around Steve Contorno, rome, georgia, cnn thank you, steve. Lets bring in tia mitchell, washington correspondent for the Atlanta Journal constitution. Tia, good morning to you. Lets stay with trump, right after steams report there. And the former president made an appeal to democrats here. Watch a portion of that but if youre a Disillusion Democrat of which there are many today, i extend an open hand and open invitation and i asked you to join us on the noble quest of saving our country saving our country he made a play for it for democrats, didnt really make a place for haley voters. More than this. What is the campaign doing to you to try to get those, those potential democrats on, sir . Well you asked a good point and i think that Trumps Campaign would say that theyre trying to appeal to disaffected democrats, particularly black males. And hispanic males as well, to say that the party has left them in the lurch. Things like illegal immigration, quite frankly, have taken jobs and taken opportunities away from people, whether theyre latino immigrants who are here now legally or black males and so i think a lot of it is in the way trump and Trumps Campaign speaks to different segments of particularly Traditional Democratic voters that they know are looking for other outlets. The vote quite frankly now whether thats going to work in the end. Of course, thats a different conversation, but trump is clearly making that play in polls show it is paying off, at least in so far and democrats will say that some of those, those black voters especially well come back over the next eight months. Its to the democratic party. Lets talk about President Biden. And for the democrats who were pleased to see that fire and energy thursday night in the State Of The Union, biden gave it to him again in pennsylvania on friday. And then Last Night In Georgia and go and specifically to the question of his age and if hes up to the fight the campaign released a new ad thats literally titled not a young guy. Heres a portion of it. Look im not a young guy. Thats the secret. But heres the deal. I understand how to get things done for the american people. I lead the country through the covid crisis can we do one more take a look. Im very young, energetic and handsome. What tell him i doing this for so thats a start and finish of this ad. Theyre talking policy in the middle of it, but i mean, he cant change it. Hes 81. It is what voters are concerned about. What does this approach tell us about how the campaign is taxed . Killing the questions or concerns about age yeah, i think the Biden Campaigns approach is to take age as one kind of category in which to contrast biden and trump but also say ideals policy, approach is another way to look at the contrast between trump and biden. And they believe that when they shift the conversation in that way, biden is who comes across fresher with younger ideals, ideals those that appealed to a wider base of voters. So biden says things like his opponent has ideals that take us back to the dark ages that trumps ideals represent an older way of thinking that no longer applies to modern day america so thats how the Biden Campaign is trying to frame this. Not so much as the age and numbers issue, but an age in thinking, in politics in the uk approach to campaigning. Lets talk about no labels. The organization has decided that they are going to move who forward toward a third party ticket, a unity ticket, and one of the potential candidates that theyre looking at is reported by the ajc is former Lieutenant Governor geoff duncan, who is our colleague here at cnn, is a political commentator who does that hurt more . I mean, for the republicans whom were never considering trump, this gives them a place to go instead of biden, but would the biden voters ever leave the president and potentially vote for a conservative republican . Yes. So number one, i think that Geoff Duncans kind of, built in constituency is very similar to the nikki haley voters. Its those republicans who want to move on for trump. He wrote a book called the gop 2. 0. So hes very much in that line of saying we can be conservative, we can be the grand old party, but weve got to move on from trump now, in a state like georgia, where voters know geoff duncan, he represents those republicans who stood up to trump, refused to not only help him overturn the election, but they also refuse to go along with his lies in the beginning that the election was stolen. And so there could be some democrats in georgia and other swing states who say out of respect for their ability to stand up for trump, that independent streak what they give him a look, some independent voters some democrats who are open to voting for republicans as well. I think the big question will be if geoff duncan becomes the no labels candidate what do they put out policywise . Because there are a lot of voters who are going to say you know, its great for you to gop 2. 0. But if that gop, 2. 0 is still antiabortion and still has life begins at conception in ways that jeopardize in vitro fertilization. And theyre not willing to protect Voting Rights that still maybe something that some independence and repub, and democrats couldnt support jeff duncan, even though they liked that he stood up to trump to your metro and also be important find out who that running mate would be. Tia mitchell. Thanks so much. Enjoy this sunday. President biden face criticism from democrats following his state of the Union Address some fell felt that he fell short in addressing the israel Hamas Conflict and ceasefire additionally, his choice of using the term illegal in talking about a migrant accused of murdering a 22 yearold Nursing Student that sparked backlash. Lets get to cnn chief Congressional Correspondent and Inside Politics anchor of manu razo. Motto, good morning. Good morning. Yeah, i spoke to a lot of democrats about the aftermath of the speech. Most of them were heartened by what the president said. In fact, they were, they thought he passed really a key tests that can show the country that he can deliver such a fiery speech. You can do his job which had come under some serious question as of late and they said that that was key, but some of his positions are drew some criticism from the left, including on the issue of israel go far enough on israel for you know i wish she would call for an immediate ceasefire, an immediate bringing in of, humanitarian and im happy, hes very critical of israel. I think thats the first time ive seen a president be that critical of israel, that directly and publicly so that was good. However, that the situation is dire nick ladle that heard him do think by not calling for an immediate ceasefire, but i think so. I think he has just to do that. She has to do a lot more than that. This was a pretty political speech in there. He went after trump directly. Do you think that was appropriate in this venue to go why this is the State Of The Union, not a campaign speech. Just tell you something we know who the republican nominee is going to be. You know, the democrat. And i think theres this notion of hold manner cant keep up with it. He blew that up and that had been the concern from so Many Democrats that ive been speaking to in the runup to the State Of The Union that he needed to do more of what they saw on thursday, even if it did anger some republicans that job number one, the democrats say is to ensure that the party is in line, tried to rebuild that fraying coalition. So youre saying being the president , of course, take that same fiery rhetoric, rhetoric on the campaign trail. What will it do to his poll numbers will reverse it in any way. Of course, thats another question in the weeks ahead, guys. And manu, what are republicans saying about where the Trump Campaign stands right now . Yeah, a lot of republicans are falling in line, but there are still several of them who are not that i talked to a number of republicans who simply wont say, if they will endorse the president. There are the former president for to run again. There are those who say that even though he has been charged with 91 criminal charges and could possibly face Felony Conviction before november. That will not change how they view this race, including senator marco rubio, who made clear that he is on trumps team. Trumps the nominee. Now, do you worry about his viability as a candidate especially if hes convicted and one of these cases, hes gone, hes not going to be convicted in these cases. And more importantly, well see how those play out. But im not worried about i was viability. I think democrats should be more worried about joe bidens viability due support trump if hes convicted. I dont believe he should be convicted. I dont believe any of the things that theyre alleging are legitimate. Bottom line is, im supporting donald trump and one of the big concerns, of course, for republicans for some time has been trumps impact. Downticket, particularly as we see the senate in within reach for the republicans to take in this years elections. The house is still a furious battle between the two sides about which way it will go in november but how will trump impact those members who serve in districts in which joe biden carried in 2020, those are all Big Questions in trumps strength of the top of the ticket, of course, will trickle down on a raju with the best insider interviews. Thank you for your time. All right. We shouldnt launch Inside Politics with manu raju at a new time, 08 00 a. M. Eastern right here here on cnn israeli airstrikes leveled residential buildings in gaza and left more than a dozen people dead.
