Colin gray faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter two. Counts of Seconddegree Murder. Police say he bought the Ar15 Style Weapon used in the shooting as a Christmas Gift for his son in December Investigators say he purchased the weapon, even though collin and his son had been questioned over a School Shooting threat that was made online in may of last year cnn has obtained the interview from 2023, where the father assures police that the guns in the house are not a safety issue. I always grateful to have you on the show lets start with the charging of the father in this instance, this is obviously something that we have seen in in recent instances of School Shootings the parents of Ethan Crumbley in michigan were convicted in that particular case how do you see the facts of this one as we know them . And what do you think is going to be most relevant as authorities look to try to prosecute his father as well. Yeah. Kasie, good morning to you. Yes. We have seen this and unfortunately, very very short time ago. Remember, we just february of this past year, right. And march where James Crumbley and Ethan Crumbley, you referring to the michigan case with a prosecutor that Ms Mcdonald decided that there would be accountability for the pattern all right and so as it relates to the facts here, i think theyre stunningly similar stunningly similar as much as you had four children who were killed. Similar and as much as you had multiple children, multiple people who were injured. And i think there needs to be accountability now as a result of the michigan case, certainly that would have some Deterrent Value with respect to parents being careful with regard to parents keeping firearms out of the hands of their children if they know that their children perhaps should be having them. And so thats one parallel thats very significant distinction of course, is that this father, kasie is charged with murder in the second degree. We saw right. In terms of speaking about the language of charging, we didnt see that in michigan. We saw involuntary manslaughter while im throwing out these legal terms, what they mean involuntary manslaughter in michigan as we look at the fall father, theyre related to negligence, right here. It also relates to negligence, however, the distinction is georgia has a statute and that law says that if you as it relates to engaging in abuse, either physically or mentally of a child at your hands through your negligence and the child guys, its Seconddegree Murder and thats a theory that theyre proffering here. And based upon facts as we know them, in fact, that could be revealed, it very well may be met it out and established joey, i guess one question i have is is how this is going to be something if this is going to be something that were going to see repeatedly, the prosecutor in the michigan case, she was on with us yesterday morning. She was also on with my colleague, Anderson Cooper last night. She was on ac360. Last night. I want to play a little bit of what she had to say and then well talk about on the other side, watch this the prosecution of the crumbleys was never ever meant to be a floodgate of charges against parents because it was such an egregious set of facts and so i am i think i share the emotions of the entire country that even after that well publicized case were still here so she called what happened in the michigan situation and agree, Jess Set of facts. Theres obviously a different set of facts here, but does it seem to you like like we are potentially heading toward a world where this is something that becomes a regular part of of how we deal with these tragic events well, ill say i hope not. Kasie. That statement relates to the shootings in and of themselves. Certainly they shouldnt be occurring. And then we would not get to the place where were looking for accountability with respect to who to charge and why yes. I will say as it relates to getting accountability for Anyone And Anyone who is a parent of person who should be in a supervisory capacity, who should certainly have the ability to know what their child as we look there at the child 14, whos charged and his father, but parents are in a unique position to know who their children are, what their capabilities are, and what if any, mental maladies or other issues they have. And so to be purchasing a weapon in december of 2023, under conditions where potentially your son should not have wanted its troubling, but i do think we are in a world where prosecutors are looking to use all the tools available to them to ensure that parents safeguard their firearms theres a place for the second amendment. Nobodys arguing. Theres not, but theres a bigger place for responsibility. And so yeah, i think posting it without any comment from the Harris Campaign really kind of says it all stephanie you mean when you kind of look at this issue and this is something that historically conservatives have looked at differently. And so there are, obviously ideological Fault Lines between them that i think like i mentioned the bromance is sort of papered over at the moment, but i really think its just sort of a Celebrity Way to dress up whats a typical Waste Fraud and Abuse Promise . Right . Well, and of course, when you have a Billionaire Friend they can send you money, right . So perhaps theres bets underneath this because look, here was Donald Trump back in July Of 2022 saying what at the time this was back when Elons Money did not seem to be available to Donald Trump calling him basically a bs artist. Every day citizens to both look at this, but also but push back against some of it. I will say in the 2022 elections, we saw some evidence people were willing to do it. There were quite a few Election Officials. There were races that we were watching in these states where voters seem to say, no, we dont want this, we want to pick someone who doesnt go down this road totally. I think its very important for a lot of people to start actually with their own feelings, that, that feeling of apathy, of confusion, that sense that democracy just isnt working anymore. Thats actually a very, very dangerous moment. Ive seen it in country after country thats been put that hartley by propaganda which is telling you to give up on democracy and thats been put there by institutions not, not working properly. We look at about a lot in our series. But if you start noticing that feeling in yourself the people around you harris already a very, very dangerous moment. Youve got to ask yourself, why is that happening . How can we fix that american democracy can definitely be improved upon . Saved and so on.
