Now, governor Ron Desantis has declared a State Of Emergency for 51 counties ahead of and it could bring devastating Storm Surge to parts of the state still recovering from Hurricane Helene. Cnns Rafael Romo joins me. Now, Rafael Helene slammed into florida just ten days ago. I know you were on the ground covering some of its devastation. Can you tell us what were learning now ahead of this potential impact here yes, some are high. This is probably going to feel like a onetwo punch for many floridians in addition to we clearing a State Of Emergency and 51 states, florida governor Ron Desantis has ordered Management Sites to be opened 24 7, so that many areas covered by debris after Hurricane Helene can be cleared before the arrival of milton, which has now, as you mentioned, a category one hurricane, more than 800 guardsmen are currently deployed floyd for debris removal. But santa said there would soon be up to 4,000 available. Governor desantis earlier said that milton has the potential of causing greater Storm Surge than Hurricane Helene especially in the Tampa Bay area. Its sitting over very warm Ocean Waters and thats why its been able to rapidly intensify over the last 24 hours, a category one hurricane with 80 mile per hour winds, sitting 800 miles away from Tampa Bay. The track continues to keep it over the Gulf Of Mexico. Those very warm ocean to mourners, which well let it intensify again, to a major category three hurricane. Then it takes its eyes to the West Coast of florida somewhere. Landfill could be even somewhere from Cedar Key down towards naples. We still need to kind of get that bullseye a little bit closer and its you can really determine that Storm Surge forecast where that ai goes regardless youre looking at impacts when it comes to rain, when it comes to win for the entire peninsula of florida. Now, like i mentioned, were talking about Sea Surface temperatures in the middle and upper 80s incredibly warm. And thats whats allowing milton to continue to intensify as weve talked about, which so many of our hurricanes so far this season now the oceans are so warm in part because our heat from our emissions gets trapped into the oceans, which again, which is what allows this rapid intensification because its Food And Fuel for these hurricanes. Weve increased the winds here with milton more than 35 miles per hour in 24 hours. This happens with 79 of our major hurt but its happening even more in recent years as our oceans are warmer. And again, this is that climate factor that weve been watching so closely. Again, when it comes to the forecast, were looking at a continuing to trek across the Gulf Of Mexico impact start late tuesday into wednesday. Landfall looks like itll be some time on wednesday, but look at those wins again. Now, while Hurricane Milton strengthens residents across several states are continuing to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Death Toll from the storm has risen to at least 227 people. Nearly half of those killed were in North Carolina where either were entire communities have been wiped out and official city they hundreds of people are still missing or stranded in the wake of the storm. My next guest was stranded along with her Boyfriend And Dog for four days and she documented. Thanks so much for having me on right now. My wife and i are experiencing a little bit of shellshocked still. What we went through was very traumatic. What we continue to go through with what were seeing unfold and the community of asheville in especially the rural areas surrounding asheville, is absolutely devastating. So much help is needed right now still, and were just i mean, we were so lucky to be alive i can only imagine looking at the pictures of devastation and seeing how high the water was relative to your house there . I mean, its its almost a miracle. It didnt. You guys made it out in the way that you did. And just for our viewers, can you just walk us through what happened and when you knew something was seriously wrong yeah. I will also im going to just because id really like to touch on whats going on in nashville right now to it was terrifying. The Cane River. We live about 30 feet above the Cane River and were in a 500 year flood plan. We never expected anything like this happen. Weve only live there for you here the Cane River is about four feet deep in front of the house and we watched it rise up 30 feet in a matter of four hours, right in front of our eyes ive never felt that terrified before my entire life and quickly into the flooding, we started to make a plan of just hiking up to higher ground having a Go Bag packed, and we watched whole houses floating down the river. We got we got a little Corner Store about a block away from us. We watched that Detaching Float down the river in front of our house we watch somebody get swept away in their Truck Right in front of our, Eyes Nothing we could do about it. It was a harrowing experience if it was horrible. And then right when the water started splashing up Over The Edge of our place, our basement was flooding. A Power Line had fallen on our house. All of our trees and Power Lines are on the water started to see lower a little and we were we breathe a huge sigh of relief. Theres damage to the house, but were still so lucky to be alive and unharmed and then we as time progressed, we realize how serious is this was. We werent sure if it was just our area or if it was the whole western North Carolina we just werent sure because we couldnt get into contact with anybody and we started to talk to locals and community members. We didnt see any official help for three days and it was just a Waiting Game to see a single Helicopter Fly over us nor a plane nothing. It was just a silent Waiting Game. We are completely in the dark it was it was terrifying and luckily, there was facebook groups looking for us specifically because we were missing. Nobody could get a hold of us and somebody hacked in to check on their family let our family know that we were live and we were okay. And about 24 hours later, our family had hiked in due to come rescue us. In that time, my Best Friend from asheville allison, shes a local Business Owner of Pollen Coffee and flowers. And i want i dont want to talk about this point and particularly because you said your friends in asheville owns a shop, if if i heard you correctly as far as what youre hearing from people there what do people need, where, what are you finding is the thing that people need most right now . Number one thing is money. Honestly, everybody lost their jobs my boyfriend and i didnt have work right now. Theres so many damages to the house that are not covered by insurance because we would need flood insurance, which we dont have.
