City Planner Dean Walrack says in his report that the proposed changes will add two new definitions to a section of the zoning ordinance covering Farm Animals and Hobby Animals. According to Walrack, “This change will enable a limited number of Hobby Animals such as chickens and rabbits on residential properties, including residential uses within commercial or industrial districts. The draft as written will also allow up to two bee hives on these residential properties. The enclosures required for the keeping of these Hobby Animals will be subject to 15 foot setbacks from all side and rear property lines intended to protect adjacent properties from related nuisances to a reasonable extent. Farm Animals will be allowed to be kept only on properties zoned A-A One-Family Agricultural zoning district.”
