Animals prefer hiphop and we have to talk about the Mass Shootings that took place this weekend. Were not going to solve americas gun problems in half an hour but well probably do more than congress. So before we get into that, lets catch up on todays headlines. Lets kick it off with something cool. Since the beginning of time, humans have asked two questions is it okay if our pets see us masturbating and can we fly . Well never know the answer to the first, but the second might now be a yes. A french inventor has successfully flown his hoverboard across the english channel. Frankie zapata soared from france to england on his jet powered board. The 22mile trip took 22 minutes including a refueling stop. His first attemp failed after he failed to land on a refueling platform. An emotional zapata designed wiz feat as an amazing moments acing my dream came true. Trevor okay, that is amazing. Hoferboards are finally real, legitimate ones, not those they sold us in back to the future 2. Going from france to england, thats flying. If youre a british person who voted for brexit, thats your worst nightmare. One moment, well have no more of the bloody foreigners coming into england, then a french dude flying out of the sky saying, bonjour im here to sleep with your wife laughter im not in a rush to get one. Its cool. But it looks uncomfortable. The whole journey youre probably covered in bugs, its like flying spirit airlines. Spirit arms, were the overboard of the sky. Lets move on from a triumph of human ingenuity to total opposite. In canada over the weekend a real come managed a big escape. Billboard reports a canadian woman walking her dog, she scared away a wild cougar by playing heavy metal band metallicas dont tread on me. She yelled for the krueger to stop but it didnt leave so she blasted what she said was the noisest thing on her phone. heavy metal music [ the cougar blasted off into the bushes and the woman and her dog were not harmed trevor thats insane. A woman came face to face with a cougar and played metallica on her phone to chase it away. If it was the other kind of cougar, playing metallica only attracts them. That wouldnt have worked. laughter applause also, im impressed she had the presence of mind to pick the right song to scare it away because she said she chose that song. I wont lie, if a wildcat surprises me in the woods, i would be so cared i probably hit random on the phone. Random like sean mendez song. I love it when you and the cat would be like, what are you saying . No laughter or play something from the lion king sound track and the cougar would be lion king, that is so racist, you think all cats are lions . You know what . I was going to mall you but i dont like the taste of bigots. laughter i have a loot of experience coming across wild animals. You dont need to play loud music. If you ever come across a wild animal, all you have to do is look the cat in the eye and say, excuse me, im conduct ago short survey. Would you like to answer that cat will be gone. Be like, oh, im late for a meeting thats it for the headlines. Lets move on to the top story. cheers and applause Mass Shootings. Over the past few years, they have become as regular in america as star wars movies. Like star wars movies, people have started paying less and less attention. But this weekend, something happened. A nation mourns the victims of two shooting massacres just 13 hours apart. The massacres in el paso, texas and dayton, ohio happened in startling proximity for a country already too familiar with gun violence. 29 people were killed in the two shooting rampages just 13 hours apart. Trevor yes, in the span of two days, 13 hours, in fact, 84 people were shot and currently 31 people have been killed, in two deadly Mass Shootings. Even though most of america has gotten used to dealing with Mass Shootings, having them happen backtoback has forced people to take notice. This weekends tragedy garnered so much attention that President Trump couldnt respond with his usual sat tweet. Instead he had to comout and give a formal address to the nation this morning where he condemned White Supremacy and domestic terrorism. Unfortunately he offered condolences to the people of toledo, which is not one of the cities that had a maz shooting. So that was the mass shooting equivalent of saying the wrong persons name in bed. But these two tragedies didnt happen in a vacuum. Theyre part of a rise in Mass Shootings in years. News anchors, politicians, pundits are all trying to figure out the root cause of what has become a national epidemic, and they have been pinning the blame on a lot of different things, starting with the internet. I know the controversial web site 8chan, extremists seem to have found a home. At least three Mass Shootings this year alone have been announced on the site. The dark corners of the internet where these people breed hate and division the perils of the internet and social media cannot be ignored and they will not be ignored. We must recognize that the internet has provided a dangerous avenue to radicalize disturbed minds and perform deminted acts. Trevor yes, many people including the president are saying the internet is to blame for radicalizing these domestic terrorists because giving them a community ad and platform is helping them share ideas. Same way the internet gave a platform to people who eat laundry detergent. Used to, you shared it with poison control. Now you have a community. Some say we need to tighten regulation of the internet. Im all for it, especially after i got cat fished last week. I thought i was talking to a lonely middle aged man who need mid Social Security woman, turns out it was some beautiful woman who wanted to date me. What the hell . I get what these people are saying, though, the internet is a powerful tool that can be used to radicalized wanna be mass shooters. Maybe thats why we dont have a mass shooting epidemic in africa. The internet is shit and the power keeps cutting. Right now theres some guy in nigeria who says i want to be radicalized but this wifi is so slow. Youre so lucky this video is buffering. You are so lucky. I will have to stick to emails. Dear sir, i have lots of money laughter now, while some people argue this epidemic is cause bid the internet, another argument is its something more precise, because everyone uses the internet in america, but most of these shooters are young white men. What do young white men all have in common . Video games. The idea these video games dehumanize individuals to have a game of shooting individuals and others have always felt that is a problem for future generations and others. First shooter games would deaccepts advertise folks to the violence. When you see it through a screen and you dont relate to it in person, it makes it seem like its more accessible. Whats changed in this country . Weve always had guns, weve always had evil, but whats changed when we see this rash of shooting . And i see a video Game Industry that teaches young people to kill. Trevor okay. On the surface, that sounds like a pretty good argument. America has always had guns, america has always had evil, but Mass Shootings have only taken off over the past, what, 20 years . And what has been new in the past 20 years . Violent video games. Although, by that logic, anything thats been invented in the last 20 years could have contributed to Mass Shootings, like crocks were invented over the last 20 years. And i know they inspire anger in me. laughter heres another thing, heres another thing, though if video games are responsible for shootings, how do you explain countries like south korea or japan . They play the same games at a higher rate than the u. S. But neither of these countries have a mass shooting epidemic. The worst thing japan is dealing with is karaoke epidemic. The only thing murdered there is mariah careyy songs. Some blame the internet, the other say its video games. But for in many, if the president wants to find the cause of what is happening he should look in the mirror. The 21yearold white mail said the attack was in response to the hispanic invasion of texas and that his idea predates President Trump. A lot of people are taking issue are the explosive rhetoric he has used, rhetoric that mirrors the screed written by the el paso murderer. Just three months ago, this scene at a rally in Panama City Beach florida. President trump first laughing when a supporter in the crowd suggested shooting immigrants. But how do you stop these people. Shoot em you cant. Theres laughter thats only in the panhandle you can get away with that statement. laughter applause trevor yeah, it might have been a joke at that rally, but clearly there are people out there who could take the president s words seriously. I know its crazy to take trumps words seriously but some people do. In fact, as weve learned, the mass shooter in el paso left behind a manifesto that included the same phrases trump uses every day fake news, immigrant invasions. The only reason you know it wasnt written by trump is the grammar was correct. laughter heres the thing although there is a chance donald trump has emboldened racist mass shooters, we also cannot say hes the overall cause because there were racist mass shooters before donald trump. The same way you cant blame stuff crust pizzas for the obesity epidemic in america. You can admit adding an edge to the pizza is not going to help people lose weight but its not the cause. Some say the internet, other blame President Trump. But the thing were hearing most is the real cause is all in the head. Mentall Mental Health is a large contributor to any violence or shooting violence. There are so many different factors. Maybe a child is born with Mental Illness. The person in dayton is a sick person. No politician is to blame for that. You cannot be a white supremacist and be normal in the head. These are sick people. Trevor now, again, this argument sounds completely logical if someone kills a group of random strangers, they must be mentally ill, but thats not necessarily true. In fact, a majority of mass shooters have no history of Mental Illness, which is a cary thought because it means most mass shooters are killing because they want to, not because something went wrong in their brain. So what causes Mass Shootings . Is it the internet . Video games . Trump in Mental Illness . Whats sad and frustrating about america is after every mass shooting, lawmakers want to identify the one thing that causes all Mass Shootings, and if they cant agree on what that thing, is nothing gets done. But the truth is, when it comes to any individual shooting, the cause could be any one of those factors, if not more. But theres one thing that every mass shooting has in common whatever motivated it has to be combined with a gun. I really am fascinated by some of the conversations people have postMass Shootings in america. One of the more interesting ones was a tweet that has drawn quite a bit of backlash from neil de grasse tyson. He tweeted and said something about Mass Shootings, and was really insensitive and people were so angry that he was trending. Like, if youre trending and theres been two Mass Shootings, youve ~bleep up. Basically, the tweet was about like scale or how we react to the idea of people dying. He said in the past 48 hours, the u. S. A. Horrifically lost 29 people. In five hours, we cause people to homicide, car gents, suicide, and often our emotions respond more to spectacle than data. I get what he was trying to do, he was trying to be sciencey in moment, but first of all time do you know what i mean, at a funeral is not the time to tell people the guy owed you money. Lets start with that. But secondly, i feel like it fundamentally missed the i guess the Human Element of what people are fighting for in america, and that is trying. A lot of people were saying, yeah, you tell them neil. People like to make a big thing about Mass Shootings in america, a few people die. But its interesting how all these things bring up still has a country that tries to stop them. Trying is the thing. Medical errors happen but you know what theyve done over time, theyve tried to decrease medical errors by implementing new laws, new system where they go, like, maybe the nurse can help and track what the doctor is doing, the pharmacist can look at your prescriptions and make sure you dont have an overdose, things are not left inside your body, they try and decrease the numbers. Same thing with cars. People say, people are dying in car accidents, we dont ban cars. Yes, but you know what we do . We ban dangerous cars. As a society we go, these are cars arent working, you need a certain type of car. To get a car, you need a license, we want to minimize the chance of a person dying in a car. Well have random stops where they check if you are drunk driving to try to protect people from dying in drunk driving accidents. Speed bumps. People try with speed bumps. Speed bumps are literally going, we dont know why or how people go fast, maybe its a cool road, theyre chasing it, we dont know. We know well put a speed bump on the road just to make it harderred to do fast. Thats all we do. People run to the extremes. They will be, like, oh, after 9 11, 3,000 people died. America didnt ban airspace, yeah but they locked that shit up hard cheers and applause do you know what i mean . Like theres a little thing called the t. S. A. Have you flown . Have you flown . You cant like, too much is a liva and they tell you, too much liquid, go back, spit that shit out they try. They try harder and harder to make flying safer and safer. As a flyer, i appreciate it. I understand the shit i have to ggo through but i appreciate wht i have to go through. Political lers would do a hijacking, and they said well make it harder, were going to lock the door. They said were going to make it more difficult. Were going to check your i. D. Then the metal detectors and things that scan you. If need be, well cup your balls to make sure you wont blow some shit up. Were trying. And, like, that for me is always been what america is about. America tries. Well keep on trying. Eth not about perfect, its about trying to be more perfect. You know what i mean . Like, thats all i dont understand about how people argue the guns thing is. Im not saying get rid of guns. Youre saying try to minimize the chances of this happening. Try to make it as hard as possible for people to own a gun because you only want people willing to work hard to own a gun to own a gun. You only want people who respect it to own a gun. You want to make it as hard as possible. applause thats all it is. And then people always say the same thing to me, they go, trevor you dont care about the Second Amendment, but, yes, the Second Amendment fundamentally, if you think about it, is about protecting human beings. Thats why it was written, about protecting human beings. What is the good of writing a law that now protects the guns as opposed to the human beings that its supposed to protect . That its supposed to protect . cheers and applause ooohhhh im guessing youre not the popular kids in school. If we dont get to that party, ill die. [ screaming ] im fine. Your arm. [ gagging ] oh hell no. Im on the pill. Ill. Im on the pill. Im on the pill, too. But its not birth control. Its truvada for prep®, a oncedaily prescription medicine for adults that, when taken every day along with using safer sex practices, can help lower my chances of getting hiv through sex.
