BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — After months of problems with the Buffalo School Zone Safety Program, the common council voted Tuesday to officially ask the mayor to pause the cameras.
The “pause” would only impact the ticketing of drivers, but not eliminate any school zones, flashing lights, or beacon use.
The council can only ask the mayor to turn it off, but it would be up to the administration to actually say yes, which is not likely.
City lawyers are reviewing the contract now to see whether there are any options, but Council President Pridgen said only the mayor or parking commissioner has the power to terminate or pause the contract with the vendor to stop cashing in on drivers.
