The annual holiday meal is scheduled for Nov. 25 at The Venue at Coosa Landing. Last year's celebration — it would’ve been the 22nd — was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “If someone were to have caught COVID and died at the event, we would have been on the hook,” said Gadsden Public Library Director Craig Scott, a member of the CommUnity Thanksgiving planning committee. “But this year we have grown up, organized and incorporated, and we are looking to bring this event back and better than ever.” The celebration was first held in 1998 at New Liberty Tabernacle of Praise church in East Gadsden, and was started by its pastor, the Rev. Willie Simmons.
