Campaigners against the proposed €160 million waste incinerator say the facility is unnecessary, unsafe and unacceptable Cork Harbour For A Safe Environment say in 2001 the site for the proposed facility was an empty peninsula however the area is now home to the Maritime College and Spike Island has become a a world renowned tourist attraction Speaking to RedFM News Linda Fitzpatrick from CHASE says the proposed location for the facility is more unsuitable now than ever before. "In 2001, that was an empty peninsula really. There was no Maritime College, there was no revitalised Spike Island, Camden wasn't a tourist centre, it hadn't been developed as such. It's a completely different landscape down there. It's not a barren peninsula anymore, you know. It's a hub of education, and of tourism, and the incinerator has got even less place down there than it ever had, really."
