Councilors slam $23 million request for Quincy College project

QUINCY – A plan for the city to renew its commitment to Quincy College and build a permanent home for the institution has already rubbed some city councilors the wrong way as elected officials question the school's long-term viability and the city's role in its operation.
Mayor Thomas Koch first announced plans for a new building downtown, which would hold some city offices and serve as a permanent Quincy College campus, at his inauguration in early 2020.
Last week, during his State of the City address, he recommitted to the plan and at Monday's city council meeting put forward a $23 million appropriation that would be used to buy land for the building at 1177 and 1227 Hancock St.
