Antibodies Antibodies are proteins produced by the body to neutralize or destroy toxins or disease-carrying organisms. Antibodies are disease-specific. An example would be measles antibody which will protect a person who is exposed to measles disease, but will not have provide protection if the person is exposed to mumps. Immunization is a process by which a person becomes protected against a disease through vaccination, sometimes called inoculation. Vaccines stimulate a person’s immune system to produce immunity that protects a person from a specific disease. Vaccines usually are administered through needle injections, but can be administered by mouth or sprayed into the nose.
