The state of Selangor remains the epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia as daily Covid-19 cases nationwide soared to 5,725 new infections on 29 January 2021.

The state saw a tremendous jump in daily cases from 1,577 infections on 28 January, to 3,126 cases the following day – the highest recorded so far.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari explained that the sudden jump in cases was due to a backlog of identified infections that were not recorded in real-time.
He said that for a period of 10 days, positive cases detected at factories and prisons as well as from private clinics and hospitals were not reported directly to the State Health Department (JKNS).
