There has been a 46% increase in recorded new Covid-19 infections on the West coast and Atlantic seaboard as of Thursday 10 December.
This is according to the Western sub-district in the Cape Metro, saying that Covid-19 hospital admissions have been rising rapidly.
Natalie Watlington, a spokesperson at the provincial health department, says that rapid outbreaks are being experienced in Atlantis, Parklands, Milnerton, Du Noon, Pinelands, Sea Point, Langa, Kensington, Table View and Woodstock.
“The subdistrict also recorded 10 new deaths over the last seven days (as of Thursday 10 December). Contact Tracing Team members have reported that more than 80% of the positive cases followed up in the Southern and Western substructure are unsure of how the virus was contracted. We continue to appeal to all citizens in these areas to do their part so that we can bring the situation under control again,” Watlington says.
