June 9, 2021 at 11:17 AM CRANFORD - Newcomer Kate Rappa has defeated incumbent Tom Hannen, Jr. in the Democrat Primary for the Township Committee, according to the unofficial results reported by Union County. According to the unofficial results, Rappa defeated Hannen 1,166 (55.79) to 921 (44.07). Rappa, a Cranford Planning Board Member, professional auditor and real estate professional now advances to take on the Republican candidate, Gina Black, in the November 2 general election for the Cranford Township Committee seat currently held by Hannen, Jr. "I want to take the time to thank my family, friends and entire campaign team for their tireless efforts throughout this journey," wrote Rappa on her campaign Facebook page.
