The defence says a Sahali resident was doing a favour for a friend when he was caught with illegally shot moose in a pickup he borrowed from a friend. But a prosecutor said Wednesday that Waldemar Sancewicz tried to use a native man as cover in case he was pulled over for illegally transporting dead wildlife. The trial in provincial court finished Friday with final submissions from the Crown and defence lawyer Matt Ford. Sancewicz is charged with unlawful possession of dead wildlife and making a false statement to an officer, both offences under the Wildlife Act. Sancewicz told provincial court Judge Stephen Harrison that a mechanic whom he knew at a local truck shop called him, asking Sancewicz to transport moose shot by another man who occasionally worked at the shop.
