We have been talking with legislators throughout the course of this morning about the idea of expanding the current powers of the speaker pro tempore, Patrick Mchenry. Debate going on between republicans and democrats over that with the democrat from maryland, steny hoyer, on the steps of the capitol talking about this idea. What he thinks of t heres a portion of that. Mr. Hoyer we have to discuss what the terms of that are. But it was important for us to get the Congress Working on behalf of the American People. And the way we move forward is in a bipartisan fashion. Thats the way we are going to move forward. Thats wait well get the Congress Working thats the way well get the Congress Working. The extreme element of the Republican Party has now shut down the congress for maybe three weeks since september 1. By not voting for rules. By not being able to elect a speaker. Whatever the reasons are. Thats not good for the American People. We have some real crises going on around the country. Israel, we need to make sure we act on behalf of israel and its people. We need to make by wait, humanitarian aid for palestinians as well. We also need to act on ukraine. We need to act on the budget thats coming up, the c. R. Thats coming up. And for a longer term. We have a lot to do in this country. We need to act on behalf of the disaster relief. Continuing to refuse when you cant do anything yourself makes no sense for america. The fact is i do not favor moving to the floor on that procedure. Never in the history of this institution, never, to the best of my knowledge, have we ever appointed a speaker pro tempore with the full powers of the speakership without having elect add duly elected speaker. We have not done that to the best of my knowledge. To do that would be playing games with such an important position, third in line to the presidency. We should do our job as elected speaker. The constitution says that. Any move to do otherwise is contrary to the constitution and would do enormous damage not just to the Republican Party but the house of representatives. Mr. Roy i think it is contrary to the constitution in terms of saying we shall choose a speaker and appoint somebody with the full powers of the speaker without having chosen the speaker makes no sense. I think motivations of pass recriminations and issues looking backwards that doesnt sell well. The question is how we go forward. Mr. Jordan is receiving the best majority of the republican votes. It is not lost on me that appropriators and essentially half the Armed Services committee with the most skeptical at the moment. When you are trying to change the status quo, stop spending money we dont have, engaging in endless conflict with the money we dont have, they fight back. They want their voices to be heard. Their voices should be heard. But some of the stuff isnt going to move these members. It will only make them harder to convince. My tphepblg to people message to people on the outside groups who love this country, they are conservative groups, they are patriots at this point just let the members have this discussion amongst us. I think he had to come out today and then see where it is. I think at this point like i said my recommendation is, either we go back at this point we probably go back to the floor and vote. Mr. Donalds the one thing that concerned me from the beginning, after Kevin Mccarthy was vacated was knowing there are some real fractures in our conference. Host stpaers the goins, i know its as far as the goins response, i know its just concluded, where are the various camps about next steps . Guest it sounds like republicans and democrats separately may be meeting in the next couple of hours. Talk about those next steps. They look very differently depending which party you ask. A number of republicans obviously are still against jordan. And it really looks difficult for him to be able to win over support given he only won over two of the 20 holdouts in 24 hours and lost four more republicans. A lot of republicans dont even want to meet in closed setting again because they know its going to probably be nasty and airing of grievances and may not conclude in much. A lot of those holdouts are very much not going to vote for jordan. There are a number of them now talking to a couple of reporters since voting saying, look, jordan should get the message that there are significant amount of us who are voting against him and that number is only expected to grow the more votes that keep happening on the floor. You asked about democrats, they are trying and businessically basically keug significantalling we are opening with working with republicans to empower the speaker pro tempore, Patrick Mchenry, but it is complicated in the way to get that done. What i have been hearing there are more democrats than republicans at this point who would help move forward a resolution. And a number of republicans are still waiting to make sure a number of their own colleagues can get onboard so they can pass this with significant support to ensure that mchenry could actually get some leverage and be able to oversee and reopen the house and host our viewers had heard from texas representative chip roy who was skeptical of the of poemering the speaker versus elech electing a speaker. Guest it is difficult to do. Its not impossible. You could pass a resolution to do this. It is constitutional. Apparently it has happened over 100 years ago to give a temporary speaker some more leverage to pass legislation. Democrats and republicans would like to extend that power for mchenry until early january. But like you mentioned, many republicans are against this move. And as we have seen already this year, any time that democrats have helped mccarthy earlier this year, democrats helping republicans to pass anything at all, that received a lot of blowback from members of the Freedom Caucus like chip roy. Even if mchenry were to do Something Like this, for example, he could possibly be voted out as speaker if they dont change the house rules. There is a lot of hypotheticals. A lot of unpredictability which is the world we continue to find ourselves in here on capitol hill. Host as far as mr. Jordan himself, there was a tweet from one of the reports saying necessarily he hasnt given up the fight when it comes to becoming House Speaker. I dont know if you heard the same sentiment around capitol hill. Guest yes. Jordan spokesman is informing reporters, what are the next steps . Are we Going Forward . Are republicans going to meet . His spokesman is telling us that jordan is going to keep going. No matter what. That has always been his personality. He never lets go of a fight. It really would take a lot. Even the number, significant amount more of republicans voting against him on the floor to maybe get jordan to relent. As of right now thats his position. Hes going to keep going. Host as far as the tone of when he goes to his fellow republicans on trying to get their support there, whats the reporting about a hardball tactic so to speak when it comes, is more of that expected . Or is there a change in posture when it comes to the jordan team in order to get support . Guest a number of republicans who are somewhat opened to voting for jordan are now publicly saying that Pressure Campaign really did not help them vote for jordan. If anything it made them more deeply entrenched in their belief they will never vote for him. It sounds like that continues to be part of the Pressure Campaign. And some of it is even happening organically as trump voters across the country are seeing that these republicans are voting against jordan. A number of republicans, just telling a couple of reporters, that a number of his own colleagues are putting out his office number, making it easier for that very strong maga base to call these republicans, the republican hold outs. Again, that is not making it any easier for any of these republicans
