The spirit when you decide whether some dense constitutional. I think its a letter and ill tell you why. Its only 16 pages is not 2700. Thats right its an easy read, fifthgrade document. It clearly delineates the responsibilities of the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch. All other matter matter should be referred to the state. If you just knew that it could tell you a great deal about what we should and should not be doing. Quick little lightning round here. Game marriage, marriage, pro civil union . At that point whats the difference. What im pro and i defined very clearly any two adults, rick godless of their Sexual Orientation should have the right to bind themselves in some type of illegal manner so they have property rights, visitation rights, whatever. , whatever. You feel theres no difference to many people theres a big difference. Because i think marriage is a sacred institution. A religious institution. Is between a man and a woman in a has been for thousands years, my problem is if we start changing it to one group why would you not change it for the next group. Where would you draw the line . Would you change it just this one time, and never change it again. Hows that, go over . Marijuana . We have multiple studies that demonstrate that it has a very effect on the development of brain and it develops right up until the late 20s, therefore unless you dont believe the medical evidence, why would we even be having this discussion. Whats worse alcohol or marijuana question mark. Certainly if you use a great deal of alcohol that can be destructive also. Arguably more harmful question mark. It could be, it has the potential. Im not sure any of those things should be said plied. Doctor ben carson, i enjoyed it i hope you people get an idea of who you are, the book book one nation. You wrote it, if. Im from Miami Florida and in light 1993 a colleague of my at dlj, and i was state Senate President decided to run for governor and asked me to host a fundraiser for him in miami. On the day of the event he called to ask if we could use some help setting up. He sent to young volunteers who interned with him in tallahassee, one of those young man was a 22yearold marco rubio, he struck me as someone who is a bright, wellinformed and a bright, wellinformed and passionate about issues and policies. He had confidence and maturity that is represented in that age. I remember thinking this young man has a bright future, the year since then has certainly brought that out as he has a accomplished many milestones and triumphs. In 1996 he became Campaign Chairman in 1998 at 27 he was elected to the west Miami City Commission against the wellknown appointment twice his age. In 9898 at 27 years old, he was elected in 2000 he was was elected to the Florida House against the betterknown wellfunded opponent. In 2007 he was the youngest speaker of the Florida House and the first hispanic to serve in that role. In 2010 he took on the Apollo Initiative in initiative in the state a sitting governor with 70 rating to win an open senate seat. In the senate he serves on the commerce and science and the Small Business not to print worship committee. He took the lead on the middle east policy, latin american issue, as education, regulatory policy, human rights and trafficking and womens issues the world. Is a leading opponent of the Big Government vision of america and an advocate for everyday at americans for their quest of the American Dream however they define it. Thats a public record, heres a few other things. Hes the best the bustling author of three books, an adjunct profession effort a university, a devoted husband and it father of four beautiful children, a loyal friend who has remained humble despite his rise. I am a libertarian republican knife firmly believe that rubio offers charisma, fresh ideas, energy, electability and integrity and ability to unite our party and expand its appeal to groups we havent reached in the recent past. His optimistic positive message in his compelling story remind me of Ronald Reagan and his vision of america. I trust him to put him up us on the path to restoring our economic and personal freedoms, without further ado let us welcome my friend, my senator, and hopefully her next president marco rubio. [applause]. Thank you, i appreciate it. Thank you theyve all already left to waters for me, ill only need one. Ive been speaking all over the country about different issues, im not giving a speech night. Part of it, but part of it, but not all of it i didnt even bring notes with me. Ive been asked to talk about the American Dream, the theme of this conference. It is something i feel very passionately about because i feel the American Dream was in my home, it was a deep part of my life as it has been years. I want to share with you what the American Dream means to me, what is challenges are today and why i believe the American Dream will not just survive, i think it will change the lives of more people than its ever changed before. Let me start with the story, i was a born with two parents who are themselves born in a different place they were born in america. They they were born in a small area in cuba. Theyre born to very poor families, my father was born to family who lived in havana and they basically ran a Catering Company that fed the workers of the tobacco factory. My mother was one of eight girls, one died in infancy so mother was one of a girls, race primarily in rural cuba by a a father who is disabled by polio and a mother who im not sure, was literate or knew how to read. Neither one were born into families with any sort of connection of power, or money. They were born into a society like most of the societies ever existed. Almost every single place in the world you are told the data you are born, youll only be of loud to be what your parents were before you. If your parents are rich, they were famous, if they are connected, youre probably going to be rich, famous and connected. If your parents are not, it doesnt matter how talented you are, how hard you work, you will not you are, how hard you work, you will not be able to do anything more than your parents did. For those of us raised in this country that is a shocking statement. Thats not the life that we have known, but throughout human history, 6000 in some of years of recorded history that islamist everyone who has ever lived has had to live including the man and woman who are my mother and father. I am blessed in 1956 they came to the united states, they spent a year in in new york, they learned quickly that humans are allergic to snow and they moved to miami. My parents came here, and they came here, they they barely spoke any english they had no money, they had no formal education, and they struggled. Life in america was hard, it wasnt easy, they didnt walk off the airplane and immediately hit it big, in fact in fact they were discouraged their first few years here. But they stuck it out and they persevered. They never became rich, they never became famous but my parents were successful. They were able, working as a bartender and i made, my mom did a lot of jobs by the way, she worked at a factory building aluminum chairs, then she worked as a cashier at a hotel in miami beach, that she worked as a maid right here in the city, i lived here, i looked over six years growing up, then she worked as a stock clerk at kmart. My dad is primarily a a bartender at bank once in las vegas, working those jobs, heres what they achieve. They owned a home in a safe and stable neighborhood, they raise four children and left all four of them with the life better than what they knew, and they they were able to retire with dignity and security. The next time someone tells you the American Dream is only about how much money you make, or whether you become famous or well known, it isnt true. True. That may be part of your individual dream, but the American Dream is about achieving happiness, and fulfillment as you defined. By the way we called the American Dream but it really is a universal drink. People all over the world have the stream, theyve had it for years, not to just be better off but to leave their kids better off than themselves. Why they called the American Dream is because so many millions of people have been able to achieve it here and not in other places. Thats the real American Dream, why is it possible . I believe it began with the declaration of independence because it had a profound statement, were one of the few founded on spiritual principle, heres a spiritual principle. Every human being, every human being is born with certain rights, life, liberty, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Those rights do not come from your government, they dont come from your king and they dont come from the law, they come from your creator. We are going to have a government but the purpose of that government is to protect those rights, not to decide them or grant them. The only power were going to give the power is the power they need to protect those rights. Those are words that we are grown numb to because we know that our whole life. Thats the reason why all of this is possible, because from that Political Freedoms but some awful float economic. For example the system of Free Enterprise, i love Free Enterprise have you looked at my background, the son of a bartender, made, never made a lot of money you put all that money information into a computer and it spits out leftwing liberal. But you know i am not . Because Free Enterprise and limited government is the only governing model in the history of the world where what my parents did would be possible. Its the only economic model in the history of the world where you can be more successful without making someone else worse off. Its the only model in the world where i can climb without knocking you down, its the only one that says the economy is not a zero gain. My parents somehow understood that, i dont know know exactly how. Not from an academic perspective but my father used to remind us why he had a job was because someone who had access to money decided to risk that money to open up that hotel he worked in. And the people in this country had enough money in sense to gamble it away and then drink at the bar after they lost it all. And thats what was possible. So is the American Dream dead today . Its not dead, its a lie. The road to the American Dream has gotten narrower, why . Because the world is change. Quite frankly our governmental policies have not changed with it but its made it harder than ever. Its gotten narrower because there are two major changes happening at the same time, the first is the economy is becoming a global one. Think back to the 1960s and 1970s have the world was communist, many of the other countries developed and not, and us were still recovering for world war ii and then there was america. We had limited competition, it was not a good idea to raise taxes but you could get away with it but to a certain degree. It was a terrible idea to increase regulations, but you could get away with it to a certain degree, why because we didnt have as much competition. But its not the case anymore. There are now dozens of countries around the world who are in some way, shape, or form or try to trying to copy what we did in the 20th century. The result is the world is becoming globally competitive. We now compete with people halfway around the world for the best ideas, the best talents, the best innovations, the best innovations, the best jobs, the best companies. The second changes technology. Technology technology has changed everything is change the way weve lived. Ten years ago i told you i was gonna google you you probably wouldve been offended. If i told you seven years ago i was about to tweet something you would say thats too much information. But its also a change way jobs work. My dad and my mom made it to the middle class and beyond as a bartender and a maid in the 21stcentury those jobs all required more talent and more education, more skill than they used to. But were hurting people there too. The only way you can acquire those skills are those educations is to go through an existing and stagnant cartel we call traditional Higher Education. [applause]. So if we want to save the American Dream we must confront these two things, one we need Government Policies that make us a globally competitive again and two, we must allow innovation and competition to open the door for more people than ever to access the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century. On the first part of becoming globally competitive, there is no sort shortage of places to point to. Our tax code is burdensome, complicated and expensive. The highest Corporate Tax rate in the world. Small businesses often times play more percentage than the Larger Companies or the armies of accountants who figure out the loopholes and sometimes pay nothing. So tax reform is a critical part, a simply vacation and making it cheaper to do business in america. Attacks go that that says the more people you hire, the more you pay them, the less you youll the irs or the government. The second, that would make us more globally competitive. The second is regulations. Regulations is often sold at to help people who are trying to make it. The opposite is true, regulations often used by established industry to keep Competitive Industry from entering the space. [applause]. I teach a course at Florida National interview city, my students are young and so they often left or they think they do. They are complaining that complaining that they can use it in miami, i said you know why you cant use uber . Because an established industry called the taxicab, and the owners of those medallions have used their influence on the county commission to ensure that no one can compete against them for pay. Other eyes lit up and said that looks that looks wrong to me and i said welcome to the conservative movement. [applause]. The truth is if you bury an industry with a bunch of regulations the Big Companies are going to be able comply with them, theyre going to hate it but the higher thousand lawyers in the best lobbyist in washington figured out. You know cant know cant do that . At the person whos trying to start a business out of the Spare Bedroom of their home because not only are they in violation of the zoning code, they cannot hire 1000 lawyers to help them navigate it. So regulatory reform, not just an ideological talking point, it is critical to being globally competitive. Its competitive. Its especially important when we try to regulate 21st 21st Century Industries with 19th century ideas. Thats where you get people trying to regulate the internet, thats where where you get people trying to do some things that are doing with technology. Thats where you end up with broadband and wifi access being controlled by the government. The wireless spectrum the highway of the 21st century is owned by the federal government, for reasons for the cannot clearly articulate. When i say lets open up more of it, lets oxen to to the private sector, they say no we need it but for what we dont know but we night might need it in ten years for something. I say well then you can rent it back from the private sector. [applause]. Theres other things we need to use balance our budget, but i want to get to the second point. We need to our people to acquire 21stcentury skills. Why is this not happening . Heres why because in america if you are in high school today youre being pounded into your head the following sentence, the only way to succeed is to go to a fouryear university and get a degree. The second sentence that says, by the way that is true even if you have to borrow money to pay for it. The result is in Amer
