These talking points that we have sitting in that seat severaseveral hours ago and the terrible results on labor which is clearly on to brexit and i suggest the reason is they can then argue we can continue with corbin. But because it was brexit that was so bad tonight, what will stop them from winning that argument . Its going to help in securing the legacy for their policy. But when you look at just how bad the results are, this isnt just a defeat for Jeremy Corbin but the policies that he, and. And then also yes, brexit is a problem and has been a problem but when you go to some of these places him how come his majority of shredded when he has been up there fighting until whoever breaks it. Jeremy corbin and the politics doesnt represent them as working class people in england. This delusion they have to keep on and eventually the British Public will see it for what it is and they will flock to support it. I think they decided a long time ago. But as you begin by saying they are in charge of the party and they are calling the shots and have a clear narrative to explain what has happened. The results are going through the public in the end and the public are giving the clearest possible message. Who is going to stop them because we are now getting people coming out from the social democratic wing of the party. Who would you represent. Its not just mr. Corbin, its what he stood for as you were saying. Where does that come from because the moment that you would say they are still in control. It has to be a proper analysis of what has gone on and a proper debate and some fundamental truths have to be faced otherwise it faces oblivion. I think that the stuff that they are saying tonight is delusional and i understand the pain they are going to feel at the moment. It is camouflaged in this reality is as if the politics if you go around saying to people i dont want your votes, you are just a tory, dont be surprised. The way that they conduct the politics come and is your party hurting . I hope not. It is so obvious for this to happen. They are delusional if well have been 50 years since any labor leader won the general election. Hes actually over there with you. Thank you. And we will go back to huw. Lets have a response to the pretty damning reader of the analysis given about why they are in this position. Is and what he did over brexit. He wanted them to have a policy that we actually had. We are doing well ther were doii remain areas and we are doing badly in these areas. I think this was primarily about brexit. I think its true that the brand was damaged by brexit primarily because unfortunately it was such a difficult path to travel. Its easy when we are doing badly that he took the route that probably has maximized the support in these areas. I know that its bad that it was going to be bad. It was basically admitting that strategy was a bit of an impossible one to carry off partly because the pressure from all sides. They had a sense of the leader whos been dragged to the position hes clearly uncomfortable with and i think it is fascinating having said the relationship was sent certainly is. That is what they were calling out for. To change the agenda. We did a lot of testing and messaging. Its clear that we fail to change the agenda unless you defeated them on the argument that hes not going to get it done then you will not be heard on these other things and that is what has happened. Is that right . I dont think its right. We are about cruising the politics if we want to change things we have to change Public Attitudes and that means making arguments about the radical new policies. By the way they are traditional social democratic policies. The Public Ownership of the things that we are proposing. They are commonly in the Public Sector and other countries. Its not that radical. Its beyond anything to the extent. Clearly theyve taken in the extent of the defeat. He is waving as he is coming in and these are live images coming in. Life images coming in. As we look at these images, we ask the direct question are you calling on him to stand down . I think that he will make his own decisions. Im sure hes been think about these things and he will make them. I do not think we have to as we need the reflection i think we were far too quick to rush into. We should have a leadership election and he may wish to stay on. She was scared to face him and this Election Campaign but im sure he would be perfectly willing to face him when they bring back the withdrawal bill next week. I just noted we have to change Public Attitudes. Isnt it actually that they have to change its attitude towards the public and that is exactly the problem that they were speaking to before. I think we do listen to the public and the public are actually asking about any of our policies. We presented a very lengthy and bold manifesto which was a program for more than a government for ten years plus. Maybe we should have a shorter manifesto. They didnt have some of the new policies in that, but i think the program is right because the states of the economy, the states of the public service, because the threat of Climate Change is so dramatic we will still need them at the next election. Nick robinson is there. What is the sense of whats going on in terms of the mood of the labor leader . Extraordinarily somebody here, theyve arrived here and just a few hundred yards away from where he lives she knows this place incredibly well and must have trumped up arriving here to the cheering crowds in expectation that he might become feminists are. Instead, he comes in knowing that his days of controlling the labour party are coming to an end. They will end in the next few days. Whatever allies, like john says, the coordinator in the labour party is over. The argument that you have been having is really whether his people, the people he brought into the labour party, the people who control the labour party, can they hang on to the control even if mr. Corbin waves goodbye to the leadership of the labour party. That is the arguments taking place, and as i look down now youre on Jeremy Corbin who is standing just below, i am on the gallery, the balcony, just above him and he is talking to people. He hugs them as if to say it is all coming to an and. Here in the north they will have a majority. Very safe labour seats, but the project, the belief that his brand of socialism could take the labour party into government, that project is over at least for him. When we look at these images, the former conservative, just thinking when you look at this campaign, which has been no nowo this result which is big for Boris Johnson, what are your thoughts on how its gotten to this point . My first comment, i decided that sean is my new best friend because i think he plays such an enormous role in making the labour party fundamental, and i think that he is pretty well destroyed it for many, many years. I dont think that its just been about brexit. I think that actually Jeremy Corbin was never a Credible FuturePrime Minister, and of course on brexit him he didnt really have a clear view, said he demolished himself on that as well. I think for us, we are obviously going to have proposals in scotland and theres pressure in dublin or instance. But there may be some pressure there. Theres an interesting phenomenon that i think could redefine the british politics which is that something has happened on the back of brexit, which either one is something ive been wanting to see for many years that we have gained appeal in workingclass areas in the middle and into the north which is far too long as the labor party taken for granted. The challenge for us now is to make sure that we can [inaudible] have confidence in the government and clarity in the seat to say people that voted conservative are not just going to say thank you, ive done is because weve got brexit, but i think even the future because conservatives have delivered on broad policies in those areas and that is a challenge i think for Boris Johnson. This goes straight back to nick robinson. What is striking is look at these images. I was there and just a couple of days ago and still there was the remnants of what you saw two years ago in 2017, the crowds and its now quite different. Silence here. Shes looking up at me now in the gallery talking with people hes known for many years but there is none of the excitement on none of the chanting. This is the corbin of ten, 20, 30 years ago. A modest, low key constituency member of parliament loved by the people who work with him, but gone is the aura of the leadership and of the sense that this is and alternative pre minister and the idea of the band that kerrys position and carried labor into the office. What he knows and they know most people watching is that he looks to do worse. It is a shocking fall from the heights. As we look at these images for another sense of the reaction. Welcome to the program. It looks to be pretty bad defeat objectively where we lost the vote and now which houses were lost the primary reason is because this became a brexit election in which it will overshadow parts. In the 2017 general election we had a manifesto with the same leader and gained 3 million votes. Fast forward to two years later, and its a very worrying result indeed. It is much more radical than this type. A lot of are spending. A loa lot of oura lot of our taa lot, lot more borrowing. In 2017 you are not saying that hyou would take 10 of the company employing more than 250 people. It was more a radical manifesto. Does that multiply any part in the results tonight . We were not complaining about the politics. We were raising the issue of brexit and it appeared people wanted to get things done starting it seems to me the main thing that has changed with the same leader in the general election. Since 1992 youve lost. They did a good job of making people think that Jeremy Corbin a decent man is some kind of threat to National Security and it isnt the fault of the people that controlled your party. They wouldnt bother wasting their time or money on that, but i think the primary reason we need to analyze objectively between 1997 and 2010 we lost 5 million votes. We have to analyze why we lost those votes and get them back in the same way after tonight we need to analyze objectively where we lost those votes and how we lost those votes do you think in five years time the labor party should fight the election with the same policy stance that it had. In a supporting some kind of triangulation of some kind of conspiracy i think the policies were very popular. Jamie will issue a statement. He will make his mind up. By view is that he is a far more decent progressive person then many of the critics. But that doesnt answer my question. Lots of results coming in. Some gains and losses. If you go to the Resource Center that will take us through the results that were picked up. Coming in. A couple of holds. Theyve had a majority cut in half and you dont quite see it on the board yet a couple of changed hands stopped into the conservative game and that same story the labor party has lost it to the conservatives and the past two decades. The conservatives tonight picked up half of the vote share and the new is scott intended for the conservatives. Lets take a little look at what has happened with the share of the vote in a familiar story now by this time. The share of the vote is down by 12 points. The conservatives are up by seven and the brexit party are putting in a performance here on six points. Now i just want to show you a person that is now emerging, that the difference in which theyve been voting when it comes to the performance and labor. When we talk about the seats we mean seats where 60 or more of the electorate voted into similarly remained. If you compare that labour performance, they are performing much less well in the lead seats down by 12 Percentage Points, down in the remaining seats as well put it down by less. By contrast the conservatives are performing better up by five Percentage Points and they are down by three points in the remaining seats but not by as much as labour, and that is why we are seeing this strong conservative performance across the board here down in both of the seats. Some interesting trends there. Another result that Jeremy Corbin would be relieved about because the labor hold its been a bit of a surprise in 2017 lots of students were voting and a first and second place, but the hold the air and on the turnout 75 that we havent seen. The majority of the 18 hundreds on the 48 of the vote and 3 ahead for labour an and maybe jn can talk a bit about the different patterns of voting in some of these areas, one being 45 to 54 remain so that is a part of the thinking. This wing is that 1. 4 from the conservative to labour. What i would like to do at this point before i bring my guests bachus take stock in Northern Ireland because there are some significant contests taking place and we are looking at quite a few of the seats there including belfast where the leader is standing. What is the latest intelligence that you are getting their . We could be close to be very dramatic. The constituency has been one of the headline battles. If this proves to be correct, that will be a huge blow. Hes a politician that has been there for 18 years and prominent for rapid negotiations in westminster. If they one belfast it means that nigel will have fallen victim because in his constituency the other nationalist parties they give a clear run at it. Its Getting Better between the two sides, not completely confirmed yet but they they have unseated thhaveunseated the vot. Now a bit hes a solicitor himself and really what they are saying that the battle they try to unseat as this has happened and has been a pretty bad night. That is intriguing and we will be back with you as soon as we get more news of that in belfast north. North. Lets go to richmond in london. Thats an interesting context of course in terms of the conservatives. Whats going on . The authority of the 45 votes we are expecting that result within the next ten to 15 minutes, possibly half an hour. The liberal democrats are expecting to win. The Biggest Issue on the doorstep was brexit and even though many people in this part of london have been worried about Jeremy Corbin and where the vote was going to put him think that is possibly giving a reasonable lead in the last few weeks and have allowed people to have confidence that have always switched but of course that has been represented since 2010 and then he lost by the majority. But he is going to be unseated and that is despite a lot of effort coming down here several times to campaign on behalf of a friend of the feminist or. There for us in richmond. Could that be a surprise by that margin . Yes. Its going to be a very vulnerable seat and he was a wellknown figure in a very strongly remaining seat, so weve got the london factory and then meanwhile weve also got the results in the northeast and i think that reinforces the patent that will determine this victory of the scale in the midland and the more offended that is the main determinant of what will be the national picture. People talk about accelerating the process now and the Prime Minister that is going to have a very decent majority what do you think the implications of that art and is it going to be possible to accelerate to the extent things can be tied up and is that remotely practical . The big thing we are seeing is the escaping from the deadlock of the past few months which has caused a degree of paralysis. To have a comfortable majority lets say 56, we dont know, it is plenty to be able to have a functioning government and do it well so im absolutely convinced and lets face it, she got the Withdrawal Agreement and it was voted positively. You will be able to get that really massive significant stage through before christmas i think and that will change the dynamics of the politics. First of all, boris is the dominant political figure and he has been since he was elected in july. He filled the space in august, hes the biggest personality on the page. He is going to be able to get us out of the total obsession to govern across the whole waterfront of domestic and Foreign Policy which lets face it has been absent the last few months. You were one of the many that was scathing before he went to number ten. Why do you think youve got it so wrong lax i was a loyalist. I supported theresa may when she tried to get the deal through. I think that this has been a massive indication of the personality and the scale of the majority gives massive personal authority he has now proven and weve got to turn back now into competent government and that is a bigger challenge. Perhaps we are not focusing enough because weve got to satisfy those that have supported us not just on the issue of brexit but on the broad domestic policy in some of these past areas of the nort north ine planes as well as reestablishing our authority on the world stage beyond just the united states. You think that hes up to it now because you were his colleague and youve are quite clear you had doubts about whether or not he is to be the pre minister. You can take on that kind of task. I think actually, since he got there he has become almost a different person. I think that when you are striving to get somewhere and you are stuck in the horrors of the brexit division, its very, very difficult that he can now be his own man. And thereve been a lot of comments in terms of being a social liberal or not. I think that he is a social liberal. Hes been very hard and strong on the issue but a certainty that can be sent and now he can govern with authority. We have to govern as one party and not have any longer factions within the parliamentary party. Hes his own man. This is the one where the action is. Its where the conservatives had their eyes on you can see the party that helped them in 2017 it is a projection still where its solid so yes we are projecting a whole slew of sea seats. They are all projected to go but it only seats one to 32 so this is the start of what they would have been hoping for. Now bear in mind that he only needed a seat in addition to the one to get the majority. Lets see how far down theyve gone. Again you see a lot of blue. You can
