CSPAN2 House Appropriations State And Foreign Operations Subcommittee Debates... July 12, 2024

I see your commitment to justice and your voice and your work at this point is extremely important. We thank you for your leadership. We need to open the floor to any member who would like to say a few words, short comments, raise your hand, call on those members wishing to be recognized. Madam chair. Thank you for the recognition and happy belated birthday. If i could admit something to you i dont want to be here, this is the 20 fourth anniversary. If i cant be with her it is a privilege to spend a few. You know so moved. You and steve have been so kind as i engaged in a variety meaningful. Absolutely. Thank you for your leadership. I am deeply impressed by several of your qualities if i can put it that way, your graciousness, your 10 asset in pursuing what you believe and openness to dialogue on perspectives, youve been very generous to me, a highlight of which was the phone call i received from you the other day in which you talked about work on the middle east partnership for peace and your willingness to put it in the bill. The architects of peace do extraordinary work, we expect that to trickle down and find its way to the ground. It is a hard list especially in this region and your willingness to engage in these questions as he reflected with the king of jordan on that important zoom call that this is one of the regrets that after decades of Tireless Service to the ideals of diplomacy and development that this just doesnt seem to be moving at the moment. I appreciate your willingness to come around the second curve, that is an expression we had in track, an event where you ran one lap. When you come around the second curve there is not a lot of oxygen left but not with you. You are clear to sprint to the finish, to the end and i am grateful for that. I want to thank you for the depth of friendship and kindness you have shown me and wish you the best in the future. I want to thank you as we continue to Work Together on the partnership. Thank you. Mister price. Madam chair, i have been listening carefully to these tributes and seconding all of them. I associate myself with the tributes from both sides of the aisle and thanks for productively working together on things we care about and your devotion to this bill is evident and this product you have put before us in so many ways bears out your commitment and the commitment you enable us all to act on. I especially appreciate support for governance work, democracy promotion in the most difficult struggling yet valiant countries in the world but we have great admiration for and countries that struggle and that is with whom we engage on the house democracy project. Once again you are supporting how that works in this bill, you are supporting Democracy Funding in general and helping us Pay Attention to specific countries that are in a critical position and some were inexplicably left out of the president s budget but not left out of this bill. Tunisia, ukraine, georgia, lebanon, liberia, kenya, the list goes on of countries that are struggling and countries whose faith we have a profound interest in terms of our values and our global interests so we will have time to discuss some of the details in this bill in full committee but i am happy to add my tribute to the work you have done and thank you for your work. Because of hdp i know of the work you and susan davis have done in afghanistan with women politicians, especially women parliamentarians which are a tough and admirable group if you ever saw one so we will miss you but look forward to your continuing work as my colleague barbara has said. Congratulations and godspeed. I was thinking of you with all the stories from afghanistan and the loss of life but if you would like to say a few words, i cant say everyone will miss you. I will miss you. I really more than anything, madam chair and Ranking Member, Ranking Member, leaders, all of you, one of my greatest joys to have the privilege and opportunity to serve alongside you here in the house of representatives. I appreciate your leadership. Dont know why it took me more than a second to want to be on the Appropriations Committee but i wish i had done it a little sooner. For six years but i had to serve alongside you as an appropriate or have been extraordinary reporting. I appreciate bipartisan efforts that take place on this committee, the, robbery, everything that comes alongside it and so i want to thank you for your leadership and all my colleagues, thank you for being my friend and colleague over the years and i will miss each of you dearly but i look forward to whatever is next and i hope we will continue to work with each other. Thank you for your time. It means a lot to me. I didnt expect this at all. I look forward to continuing to work through this years appropriations process, thank you for your leadership. Thank you Ranking Member rogers. I want to thank you for your work on another strong bill and i recognize the committees clerk along with staff for working directly with my office in this important bill and provisions related to regions i focused on since coming to congress in central america. The global threat of covid19 from one country to another has shown that we live in an interconnected world. This bill makes urgent Global Investment in programs in investments that lead directly back to the security and safety of americans at home. Im also thankful for inclusion of provisions focused on tackling corruption and supporting the rule of law in the northern triangle. Public corruption in guatemala, hunter is in el salvador has led to high rates of violence and poverty forcing families to flee and migrate to the southern border. Looking toward stability and Good Governance with our neighbors is a necessary part of any solution to the migration crisis seen in recent years. Before i end i want to say thank you. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have served under your Appropriations Committee, chairmanship, for the community, more safer and prosperous for commitment for foreign assistance, the committee will miss your leadership but you are leaving behind a legislative legacy, for leadership abroad. I will greatly miss you, thank you for being such a great part of this committee and i yield back. If there are no more members who would like to be recognized, the bill is open for amendment. Being that there are no amendments i recognize miss lee for a motion. I move that the bill be reported to the full committee. The question is on agreeing to the motion. All in favor say aye. All opposed say no. In the opinion of the chair, the eyes have it, the motion is agreed to, if there is no further business i ask unanimous consent that staff be allowed to make technical and conforming changes to the bill and report. Thank you all. One final note, please leave the bill and report on the table. The subcommittee staff to collect, the subcommittee stands adjourned and i thank you for your participation.
