Resolution 718, reaffirmed the Senate Commitment to the orderly and peaceful transfer of power for in the constitution of the u. S. Without objection, senate will proceed. The preamble he agreed to and motion be reconsidered, be considered, made and laid upon the table without intervening or debate. Without objection, so ordered. The senator from west virginia. Its a shame we have to, reaffirmed our commitment to ouo country, our constitution and who we are as a people and how he became a great country, the greatest country on earth, the freedoms we all take for granted many times. Sometimes we hear things that challenge that and we heard that yesterday and we were concerned about that. As of m today, my friend and colleague from indiana wanted to reaffirm our commitment to the pledge of allegiance which is something we should do every d day. We aree doing is saying basicaly that democracy is the orderly and peaceful transfer of power in the president transitions. This should not be a question, there should not be one iota of interruption whatsoever as a peaceful demonstration, i remember the race between john kennedy and Vice President richard nixon, very close. Everyone was on pins and needles. There was an orderly transfer, conceded and he did a transfer and away we went. Then you have al gore and at that time, Vice President al gore, former Vice President george w. Bush in 2000, with all the and basically for the sake of our country. We expect that to be down, we are in the most difficult times right now and for the president , to even address the subject maybe not knowing if he would accept or not, it is beyond all ouabout comprehension that could ever happen in america. The role of the voters and be able to protect the ballot box. Have come to evolve in our country and continue to be challenged but i believe to have leader of the free world talk as if youre in a democracy versus democracy is something that should alarm all of my colleagues, both sides of the aisle i know they are alarmed. With that, we reaffirmed who we are in the center of what we believe in and the resolution is very clear, all it says is we reaffirmed the senate our commitment to the orderly and peaceful transfer of power called for in the constitution of the u. S. And there should be no disruptions for the president or any person in power to overturn the will of the people of the u. S. , thats really who we are. Its what you defended and we fought for and proud of all the people who have served. Thank you for serving. Ive said this so many times, i am proud of my state. We have no we have more veterans than any other state. Never fail to answer the call. Our people have worked hard including my grandfather and all my relatives, the guns and ships defending our country and build this great nation. We are proud about that. This is not who we are, this is not who we are. This is not politics, its not republican or democrat, make no mistake. The good lord and all we believe in in our country, this is about maintaining his democracy. Maintaining and d we will defend and we have today, reaffirmed our commitment to the orderly transition of power by the president of the u. S. , whoever that should be, whenever that might happen, that they must have, the transfer will defend and uphold so thats what we reaffirmed today. Thank you for giving me the opportunity and thank all of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for understanding and standing true to who we are, what we believe in and what we have committed ourselves to.
