We have exhibits that are here longterm and shortterm, we do lots of childrens education, and we have some live animals. I would like to show you a few things about our museum that we are so proud of. If you will look over this a muraln, you will see we are incredibly proud of. It was done by a nationally recognized artist, emma stark. It was painted on site and has been here since about 1993, 1995. Its the only place where you can see the brazos valley as it was 12,000 years ago. Some of the animals portrayed in the mural were the predecessors of our modern species. 12,000 years ago, we had liens, tigers and bears in the brazos valley. That is something a lot of our visitors enjoy looking at, the 50 different species portrayed in the mural. If you look hard enough, you can see the early people who live here in that time. Ourof the things in collection we are very proud of is our ice age mammal collection. This mammoth and mastodon skulls we have on display were found on the brazos river and there is a long history that we have celebrating this with an early museum located at texas a m university. Havef the other things we age is ourns to ice reproduction of the clip to don. Doug lifted on was an early predecessor of the modernday armadillo. One of the things that is fascinating is that although the city of brian is our current ofnty seat, the town boonville was the first county seat before the city of brian. Through,railroad came the city of brian really flourished and the city of boonville died out. One of the things we are proud have is one of the serve original surveying equipment that was used to survey the town of ville of boonville. You can see the compass used to map the town, and some of the materials that we used when they were putting their lines and things like that. Was a veryer important figure in all of this. He was the original surveyor for the town. Cotton farming was really important in this area in the 19th century. A lot of immigrants, especially texas didho came to not have a lot of funds, so they and that buying land along the river bottom. It turns out that land was really great for cotton farming and pecan farming. We still have a lot of cotton farming around this area. The temperature and the way the land is along the brazos river was really very good for that sort of thing. Because we had cotton farming, there was also slavery in texas and this particular bail is a really early bail. How they put them together. A hook scaleis is and wasting beam so that they could weigh the cotton. Gin is just a simple cotton and separator. This was in the 19th century as well. Is a different kind of bail.
