Defense, special teams lift Mount Tabor over Dudley in 3AA Western Regional Final Tags: By Jacob Hancock, HighSchoolOT Reporter Mount Tabor's football team advanced to the 3AA state championship with a 24-20 win at home over Dudley in the Western Regional Final on Friday. Senior receiver Lance Patterson scored the go-ahead touchdown for Tabor on a 5-yard sweep with 5:38 remaining in the fourth quarter. Special teams and defense played a crucial role in the victory for the Spartans (10-0), who followed up the 9-6 regular season win and completed the sweep of the Piedmont Triad Conference rival Panthers (8-2). Tabor scored the game's first points on the opening kickoff, as senior Collin Smith ran it back for a 90-yard kick return. And the Spartans took a 17-14 lead at halftime thanks to a blocked punt by senior Josiah Banks that set up a 48-yard field goal by junior kicker Eliott Trinh as time expired.
