abby, a german short-haired pointer was playing with her owner when impaled through the heart. she fought the odds and lived to bark about it. here is t.j. winick. >> reporter: you can actually see and hear abby the dog's heart race when comforted by owner adam becker. >> you are going to be just fine. >> reporter: considering what she has been through, it is a miracle abby's heart is beating at all. the german short-haired pointer was impaled by a stick last monday in the woods outside seattle. >> she just started crying. i went over there, saw a hole in her chest, probably, 4 inches. and i put my shirt on it. and carried her out. >> it was bad. it is remarkable she is alive actually. >> reporter: this x-ray shows the stick, you can see the shadow. so the dog didn't bleed to death, the doctor had to stitch up abby's heart as this was pulled out. because of the nature of the injury and the cost involved the surgery is extremely rare. one false move, abby is not alive today. >> my heart has never beat as
