strikes advanced hunts dreds of miles in a few days. >> reporter: here there have been all night celebrations with gunfire in the air and celebratory tank fire. the rebels are cheering their biggest advance yet. in the last 24 hours or so, the rebels have been able to push their front line forward hundreds of miles. they have been moving through a corridor of destruction created by western air strikes. we've been driving through some of what the rebels describe as gadhafi's army. dozens of armored vehicle, artillery pieces and tanks completely obliterated by western air strikes it has allowed the rebels to just drive forward and simply go from town to town raising their flags. they have now reached the outskirts of sirte and that could be a major battleground.
