Disruption of sector highlights need to rethink internships
Internships, a building block and prerequisite in the qualifications at many colleges and universities, have been severely disrupted by COVID-19 and require a rethink by higher education institutions.
Many colleges and universities require students to complete an internship before they can graduate or encourage them to pursue experiential learning opportunities that could help with the development of skills and competencies required in the workplace.
But COVID-19 has disrupted the availability, uptake and assessment of internships, attendees heard at a virtual meeting in May about the pandemic and its effects on internship programmes in Kenyan higher learning institutions.
