KOTA KINABALU: A women-led platform here has called for those issuing contributions to those impacted by natural disasters, Covid-19 and such, to bear in mind the environmental sustainability and waste management aspects. Borneo Speaks, a group of like-minded writers who produced community-based stories with a focus on vulnerable and minority groups, said this was a common issue they have found when generally observing non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government donations to those in need. More often than not, villagers are left on their own to handle packaging leftovers in large quantities from plastic containers and other non-biodegradable materials after getting donations like food supplies and essentials, said spokesperson Mariah Doksil.
