Tánaiste Leo Varadkar's department contacted Dunnes Stores last week over its supermarkets selling non-essential goods and its website offering click and collect services, the Sunday Independent has learned. The contact from Department of Enterprise officials resulted in Dunnes Stores removing references to its click and collect service from its website, which as of last Thursday stated that this service is "temporarily unavailable" in the Republic. Last Wednesday the same section of the website said customers "could choose to have their online order delivered free to their selected store". Under Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions click and collect is not permitted, with the Government saying last week it may be possible from next month as part of a phased return of non-essential retail.
