Edgar Gomez-Diaz charged with attempted murder in Springfield shooting Updated 1:07 PM; SPRINGFIELD — A 36-year-old city man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for a Monday afternoon shooting a block away from police headquarters that left a man hospitalized with serious injuries. Edgar Gomez-Diaz is charged with armed assault with a firearm with intent to murder, possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and malicious destruction of property. The malicious destruction charge is the result of one of the gunshots striking and causing damage to the masonry on a nearby building, said police spokesman Ryan Walsh.
