Shelved facilities of
COVID bed shortage
Pune Railway Division had prepared last year — fully equipped to
house isolation cases of COVID-19 and with provisions to fit in ventilators, if needed — could have well countered the current situation of acute shortage of beds and quarantine facilities in the city. The Railways is willing to put it in place again, saying the facilities could be readied in a week.
The Railways wrapped up the facilities October last year, when the state and civic authorities failed to put it to use in the first wave of the pandemic. The coaches would have provided an ideal alternative for patients and their families running from pillar to post for admissions at civic and private hospitals, at present.
