Effingham, IL / Effingham Radio Apr 3, 2021 1:34 AM Effingham traveled to Mattoon on Friday night and returned home with the 28-0 shutout victory over the Mattoon Green Wave.
Mattoon got the ball on the opening kick and had a clock eating drive only to come up short. Because of penalty negating a first down run, the Green Wave would have to punt it away. Effingham’s offense didn’t fair too much better has they had little going for them and the first quarter finished scoreless.
Early in the second quarter the Hearts would get the passing game going. With connections from QB Nate Thompson and Parker Wolfe. Thompson would connect with Wolfe on a 20 yard TD pass to get Effingham on the board first 7-0. Wolfe would have another big catch and run to set up the Hearts second score of the game. RB Chase Woomer punched it in from 7 yards out to make it 14-0.
