End of an icon: Demolition of LSB building in Lexington approaches Get ready to say goodbye to an iconic building in Lexington. The demolition of the five-story, former Lexington State Bank building, which has loomed over uptown for the past 40 years, is slated to begin in May. “Lexington is experiencing growth,” said Tammy Absher, director of Lexington Business and Community Development, “The redevelopment of this property is a good thing and the (company) is staying here and investing in the area. We worked hard to come up with a plan that fits into the historical, uptown feel of the area. It is a big project, but in the end, we will end up with a new branch that looks like it belongs in uptown.”
