Engineers get to bottom of Whittle Brook sewage leak

ENGINEERS say they have identified the problem which cased raw sewage to seep into Whittle Brook earlier this week.
According to resident Michael Warburton, the rupture was producing a foul stench which had a reach of around 200 yards downstream.
United Utilities say they have identified the problem and are planning to start repairs in the near future.

A spokesman said: “We responded quickly to a report of pollution in Whittle Brook on Monday afternoon and found it to be a break in a sewer pipe.
“We shut down the pipe the same day which stopped the problem and are now making preparations to repair the pipe as soon as possible.”
