Sri Lanka's export earnings have reached their lowest in five months in April. Commodity export earnings in April stood at US$ 799 million, down 25.1% when comparing with the previous year. Export earnings fell in April due to the new COVID wave, with apparel accounting for 45.7% of Sri Lanka's exports. According to the Export Development Board, the revenue earned from apparel exports in April was US$ 465 million. Export earnings for the first four months of the year were US$ 3.7 billion. However, due to the COVID pandemic in 2020, export earnings in April showed an increase of 183% compared to the year before due to the decline in export earnings.
