Fatal Newton Police shooting: Memorial held to honor Michael Conlon

Holding bouquets of flowers, a small group of people gathered on April 5 at the Hyde Community Center park to remember Michael Conlon, a Newton Highlands resident who died on Jan. 5, after a police-involved shooting.
“We wanted a space for people to  … commemorate his life,” said Emma Kellstein before about 20 people stood in a circle as an attendee read Conlon’s obituary.
The Jan. 5 incident began after Newton and state police officers came to Indulge!, a Newton Highlands candy store, in response to a 911 call about a man, later identified as Conlon, 28, armed with a knife, according to DA Marian Ryan. The officers and a state trooper initially used “less-than-lethal” weapons to subdue him, but they did not work, the Tab previously reported.
