Insuring flood victims that the entire country is with them. That together, we will overcome this historic flooding. At least 14 people are dead but officials fear that number will rise once the waters recede. To make matters worse, more rain, as i said, it is on the way. This is a pretty dire situation. Youre looking at rescue boats there. People are going out in their communities and theyre helping individual citizens, not members of law enforcement, but they are going out conducting rescue efforts. One of the scary things going on, levees have been breached. Reservoirs and dams have spilled over. Reservoirs, we have live pictures, they have turned into rivers. Hillary sawn in kings wood, texas. You rescue operations going on yesterday. More today, hillary. Tell us what youre seeing on the ground . Reporter trish, thats right. This rescue operation in king wood, in barrington. Theyre walking towards me now, this is where the boats coming in. I want to introduce you someone from this neighborhood now completely underwater. She actually has been helping her own neighbors escape in her boat. Stacy kennedy is with me. Youre telling me earlier some emotions youre feeling saw your neighborhoods come in helping them out from the place that you lived . It is hard. It is hard to see neighbors. Actually there are no words right now. A lot of emotion. A lot of it is material things. And i understand, but a lot of it is memories well have to rebuild and remake. And i hope that our neighborhood is Strong Enough and our community is Strong Enough. Showing, the turnout today, everything was amazing. Im thrilled how many boats i saw going back and forth. Not just only ours but others. Reporter you were explaining to me the quick rise of water. It was about a inch 1 2. You ended up going back to your house to check out the conditions. When we woke up at 4 00 in the morning, the dogs woke us up. There was half an inch of water on the floor. By 6 00, daybreak, there was about a foot of water. I just went back and it is about 3 1 2 feet. We live in very back of the barrington. Hopefully we didnt get anymore water, if it doesnt rise, i think well be okay. But i know a lot of people lost a lot of things. Reporter this is just one amazing tale of neighbor helping neighbor, trish as you can see, we still have people escaping this neighborhood. It is now you know water. The underwater. The rain is coming down quickly. They told us people have been hanging sheets outside of their homes, white sheets over their mailboxes to indicate they need to be rescued. A lot of the boats are having a hard time in and out because the water is so high. They have been marking each house with spray paint. Once they know the house is clear they are marking it, so rescue teams can move past it to find people still inside. Other rescue operations told us that they are having a hard time convincing everyone to leave. Some people dont want to leave their belongings or their home. It is tough. More rain is on the way tonight. There is small window of opportunity when the boats can get in and see. Visibility is key. A lot are volunteer boats, fishing boats. Peoples personal boats. So they are not equipped with lights and other technology you would need to navigate at night to conduct some of these rescue operations, trish. So yesterday we saw all volunteers helping out. Today it is the same thing. Were seeing volunteers. We havent seen the coast guard here. People who live in this neighborhood going out, boeing back for neighbors that are trapped. Trish hillary this, is who we are, really. This is, this is america right there, right there in texas. Neighbor helping neighbor right now. You know, we obviously bonn through challenging times politically. But this is really the essence of who we are. It is traumatic, hillary. I mean, first of all you just hope that everyone is safe. I know were already reporting that 14 are dead and there could be more. Our hearts go out to them to make sure everyone is safe. That is the priority. But after that, you think of the trauma, hillary, that people go through, just this whole process of escaping. Then losing everything. All of your belongings. Little things like photographs, momentos in your home. They have to rebuild and they have to start from scratch, hillary. Yeah. It is kind of a question what is next . Getting them out, getting people rescued is the first step. This water is going to be in there for weeks if not months, depending how high it is. So, it really is a longterm situation for many of these people. These houses are not liveable. So planning what to do next, where to go, how to begin their life again, those are questions that everyone here is facing. What to take. What to leave. And how to live from daytoday. Were in a daytoday operation right now. A lot of people dont have any answers. Theyre in shelters which are now overcapacity. Were really just trying to stay alive at this point. Trish hillary, thank you for your reporting. It is important to get this story out. It is important im sure we cant even fully grasp, when you see these pictures on screen, everyone, it is just a small part of what people are experiencing there. Jeff flock is there seeing it up close in houston where officials are keeping a close eye on several reservoirs. And those homes, im looking behind you right there, truly underwater there, jeff. Reporter absolutely and thats still unfolding, trish because the barker reservoir. Theyre just releasing water. Look what happened in the last few hours. That is the bayou beyond it, it broke through the berm, an flooded even worse these homes over here. Brandon, i appreciate it, he is going to give us a first look inside of his house. That is the thing. These, these reservoirs, they had to release from them, and theyre continuing to release water. Wow. Okay. Are you all right . Im fine. Reporter you guys okay . We have chest waders. Were still at chest level. It will get higher. Reporter got you. This is the first time we look inside one of these flooded hopes, trish. Brandon has not been in since this happened. So, i can only, i want to get up there. Were trying to get in. Okay. Go ahead. Want to give you that look. This the first time in. Reporter yeah. Trish just to reiterate, this is brandons first time in his home, jeff. Wow. Reporter i dont know if you can see it, oh, my lord. Trish we can see the water must be four feet high . Living room. Desks. Reporter tried to get things up. Yeah, i didnt think the water would get this high back here. But clearly you can see, it is going to get higher and higher. Got a fish tank over there. You can see the fish still floating in there. Reporter if you have to leave something. It would be the fish. Thankfully we have the animals out. We have cats and ferrets in here. Theyre out. Reporter you never thought this was going to happen like this, right. No. Reporter dave, can you get back here . You have debris in your way. Oh, man. This is the kitchen. This is the kitchen. Move that higher if i can . We cooked a meal saturday night. We were in the process of getting out. Reporter this is what people, peoples homes all over houston look like. This is one. Youre getting a first look here. Thousands of people. Exactly. I put what i could on counter tops thinking it would be high enough. The water is still rising. So i wouldnt be surprised if half this room was further under water later on. With water coming out. Reporter berm broke through. I left saturday night at midnight. There was no water in the house. The garage was slowly we can take a look in there. It was slowly starting to fill up first. I came being early sunmorning t was already water breached in the house. Reporter trish is asking, what do you need . I have my grandmother and family in the neighborhood. They have a spot for us. We have been staying there past few days. Were fortunate compared to a lot of people reporter in a shelter somewhere. Dont have family. Exactly. We have what matters with us. Reporter holy crow. This is the laundry room. This is, is even floating. It is black in there. Reporter that is the garage. Your washing machine is close. That is just stuff from the garage. Take you around to the bedrooms, see how badly that is. We could go this way, if you like to. Reporter now that this happened. I know this is your first look at it. Youre a young guy who is probably pretty resilient, but what, what . I honestly dont know. I never experienced anything like this before. I mean, i have lived in houston 26 years, my whole life. Dealt with a lot of different rainstorms and different problems but never Something Like this. Reporter oh. Yeah. Reporter oh, lord. This is another fish tank. This is appropriate, huh . Yeah. At least just so much. I honestly havent been in here since any water has gotten in here. Just so much. So much. I dont know what i will do with the fish. That is one of the has concerns. Reporter you have your animals out. Im a animal lover. Animal enthusiast. This closet is completely flooded. The guest bedroom. I have a lot of stuff on the bed here. Reporter what a lot of people have done, trish, they put their stuff high enough, they knew there would be some water. I didnt anticipate this much water. I dont think there is much i could have done to solve or prevent this. Trish does brandon know what he is going to do now . Well have to get through it. Reporter do you have any sense, what you do . I reached for the lights. Really, first for me. Reporter locking that door. In terms of this house i mean that is the bathroom in there as well. It doesnt smell pleasant. This is our other guest bedroom. Reporter oh, baby. This is completely covered in water. Bed is floating, looks like. The bed is floatings off the frame. Reporter i hate to say it, some of the things up high this, is not only a total loss of your stuff but a loss of your house. Everything. Maybe stuff on the walls. Everything is pretty ruined, im sure it will be taken down in the studs in the house, remodeled. Reporter guy in charge of Flood Control of Harris County, be prepared for the homes to be flooded until october. This is the master bedroom in here. We really didnt have time to get anything out. Reporter this is your clothes. I thought we would get back sunday morning to get some stuff but the water is too high. Reporter you cant see in there but all his clothing. Not a lot to see because there is not tremendous amount of light. This is the backyard where we just came from. It just, i dont know, water everywhere. I really dont know what to do . What to say. Reporter last thing i want, i dont want to trouble you too long. That is the last thing i want to ask you, and that is get away from the window, it is probably blocking us, what do you do . What are you going to do now . Really just wait. I cant do much right now. I have to wait until the water gets down maybe. It will be weeks before we get back into this house. This water could rise even higher. Really were waiting it out. Just like everybody else probably is. There is not too much people can do. Its a helpless situation. So. Reporter so you feel a little bit helpless. Completely helpless with water gushing into your home. You cant do anything but sit and watch and hope and pray. Reporter trish, i have seen a lot of floods trish now that he is back in the home, jeff. Is there anything else that brandon wants to take . For fear that more waters is coming in . Reporter is there anything you feel like you want to get out before water further overtakes the situation . To be honest with you, there is not much i need to get at all. Reporter do you need any help. It is fine. There is not much. I appreciate the offer though so. Were just going to have to sit back and wait and watch, just like Everything Else i guess. Reporter not alone. That is the one thing, reassuring. Im not alone with this. Everybody is dealing with the same problem. Everyone around houston is dealing with the same problems. Were all in it together. It will take a while. I have the feeling well make it you know. Just going to be tough, tough on everybody. Tough on me. Tough on the city, officials, everybody will have to Work Together this is something the city hasnt experienced since maybe allison. This is already worse than that. This is the worst i think it has ever been. Maybe anywhere. Oh, yeah. I would agree with that completely. Reporter oh, trish, wow. Pretty shocking. Trish our heart goes out to brandon and everyone there in houston suffering from this horrible event. Thank you, jeff. And thank you to brandon for showing us that first look inside of his house. I know in some ways the trauma, it doesnt hit you right away. It is something i think over the next several days, several weeks, several months, will really start to affect people more. Because at this point it is just about getting out. Making sure the loved ones are safe. You figure out whats next days from now. Right now making sure everybody is safe. That is the priority. Reporter that is the only positive of this, trish, the loss of life has been minimal. It is terrible, those that have been, lost their life, but it is mainly stuff but there is a whole lot of stuff that people have lost. Trish sure. Jeff flock, well keep checking back with you. Thank you very much for bringing us that story. For bringing us brandon. Well be back with more coverage, live from texas, after this. You know how painful heartburn can be. Build a better website in under an hour. With gocentral from godaddy. Trish President Trump in texas as that state deals with horrific flooding. Looking at possibly 50 inches of rain there. Jeff flock was with a houston resident who took us his home, first time he has been through the home. He left saturday night. First time back just now. Moments ago you saw on live television. So much water, the bed was floating that is how much water there is. This is what so many people, thousands of people are struggling with now, thousands in shelters in texas. Im joined on the phone by texas representative john culbertson, he represents the seventh district, harris count. Tell me what is going on in your district, representative . Trish, right now the two main reservoirs in houston on my district, addicks, and barker. Water is so fill coming around the spillway in uncontrolled way. Which will increase amount of terrible flooding they have already experienced. So it is important for people to, to get good information from official sources like the Harris County Flood Control district website. But trish, also, texans are stepping up to help each other and i would encourage people if theyre concerned about flooding, if they think they need to be rescued, they can download, if they have access to the internet, they should download an app called next sis door, which is very, very use if you recall. Nextdoor. My brother chris and his wife had to be evacuated in into the wood, using nextdoor. Trish we have a picture, congressman, of your brother getting rescued, that the viewers can see. This is wonderful example, again of neighbor helping neighbor. Absolutely and that is the beautitive social media and free people. This was done entirely on their own initiative. His neighbors, sharon and kenny evans organized this on nextdoor. If people listening to the show, download in houston, need help or to be evacuated, if they can get to the internet, download nextdoor, create an account for free, sign into your neighborhood. Christopher said we have water on the first floor. We need to be evacuated. His neighbor kenny evans showed up immediately with the boat, evacuated chris and his wife and their dog. Took them to the edge of the neighborhood and volunteers in monster trucks were lined up like cabs in the airport. Chris jumped into a truck. The guy said, where do you need to go . He took chris to nearby hotel. Dropped him off. My brother and his wife are safe in nearby hotel. This is all done by volunteers, free people, using their own free will, unlike, sort of crowdsourcing where crowd saving fellow texans, neighbors helping neighbors, texans helping texans. Just cant say enough about our firstresponders. We thank all of them for all their hard work. The character of texans is really shining forth in this horrible episode. Were all helping each other. It is going to be a team effort for all of us to recover from this. Trish picture there someone holing what i thought may have been a baby. You see these children. It will be very traumatic for all of these people, especially these kids, for sure. So there is a lot of work that will have to be done, representative. We appreciate you being here. In some ways this is all just beginning. Thank you very much. It is just beginning. Were close, hopefully getting towards the end of it. There is a lot of work to be done. Well do it together to recover from this. Trish good. Well be right back. Approaching medicare eligibility .
