Pick. What does she say about joe biden . Kamala harris unified the democrats for expose weaknesses . Here to break down the numbers, mark. Welcome. Doug told me last week, she was the best choice. Do you agree . I urge you agree. I also thought she would be the choice and she was the logical choice given the facts and circumstances of the campaign. I wonder why it took a couple of weeks to take the choice. Paul shes a coastal california progressive. I guess the issue is, is she going to play in wisconsin, pennsylvania, the swing states where middleclass voters are there to be had . The question is whether she will play. The real question is whether joe biden will play. I dont think she will be a major factor in that one right or the other. Shes a major factor in unifying the party, creating historic moments but whether or not those swing states are going to swing to joe biden will hit be his job. Paul the other claim, as a minority woman, she is going to energize minority voters in a way they werent energized four years ago. He saw that in places like detroit and philadelphia. What about this year . I think she will definitely help on that. Having the first africanamerican woman on the ticket will definitely help in turnout but turnout is likely to be quite high given the facts and circumstances. I think it will be high across the board. [laughter] paul okay. We will see about that. The democrats are going in to the Convention Next week, how unified of the democrats compared to previous cycles . The biden bernie condominium going to hold, everybody going to behave . Are they a unified party. I think it is a unified party. They dont have everything they want and they will push for more but by and large, i think the entire party has coalesced around the ticket, it will be a controversial kind of convention. This campaign has so little controversy right now that maybe thats part of the problem. Paul i remember 2012 and mitt romney and stevens thought the voters had decided to fire barack obama and they could play it relatively safe. Biden seems to be pursuing a strategy, hes not taking Media Questions and being very careful. Are they being too safe and could be a problem . We used to call it the rose garden strategy. Ive never seen a challenger do this but its been working so far. The vote is largely determined by trumps satisfaction or Approval Rating on handling the virus. The virus is the number one issue, it overwhelms everything and affects every American Life at the moment. The fact that his rating went from 51 to 41 on handling the virus sums up his entire vote drop. I think hes got to get that up to the other issues count if hes really going to get back here. Otherwise safe strategy is going to work. Paul all the attacks by the president on bidens sanders manifesto, tax increases and someone will not cut unless you see the public coming to the conclusion that the virus seems to be under its not going away but it seems to be better control. Paul i think that is essentially right. If i look behind the polling, sure. The president has a lot of strong issues, violence in the country, law and order, government sponsored health care, he has a number of issues and the tax plan nobody knows about. My issue was in trumps favor but i dont think thats getting the favor. They want somebody to solve the virus problem or at least be somebody to finish and control this as it moves forward. The trust trump on the economy but not the virus. Paul the economy will work for trump either even if it comes back strongly in the Third Quarter as long as the infection rate is up . Its in part, the same thing in the sense can this economy really come back without solving the problem in the virus . Eventually you hit the ceiling and whether or not jobs can be brought back and restaurants open. A vaccine and surging economy, that is trumps magic formula. Getting vaccine numbers into high 40s is necessary for other issues to matter. Paul thanks for being here. When we come back, more on the senator harris pick attacks on the vp candidate has already begun. Pros and cons on his historic chase choice for running mate. Businesses are starting to bounce back. Shingles doesnt care. I logged 10,000 steps today. Shingles doesnt care. I get as much fresh air as possible. Good for you, but shingles doesnt care. Because 1 in 3 people will get shingles, you need protection. But no matter how healthy you feel, your immune system declines as you age, increasing your risk for getting shingles. So what can protect you . Shingrix protects. For the first time ever, you can protect yourself from shingles with a vaccine proven to be over 90 effective. Shingrix is a vaccine used to prevent shingles in adults 50 years and older. Shingrix does not protect everyone and is not for those with severe allergic reactions to its ingredients or to a previous dose. The most common side effects are pain, redness, and swelling at the injection site, muscle pain, tiredness, headache, shivering, fever, and upset stomach. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about protecting yourself with shingrix. Shingles doesnt care. Shingrix protects. She is a big tax or so is joe. They want to tax 4 trillion. The biggest by far. Its something that wont work. Paul President Trump reacting to the Kamala Harris pick. When in november could lead to unprecedented tax increases the president wasnt alone. Many in the gop labeling her extreme and questioning the choice of a running mate they describe as being far left of biden on many issues. Will be an issue for the campaign or a boost . Lets bring in kim strassel, bill mcgurn and kyle peterson. Kim, in our previous block, you heard mark say this is a virtuoso selection for your column this week was quite critical. Why . Right now we are hearing a new version from the press about how to look at Kamala Harris, shes a masterful politician, she is embedded and she is going to be unbeatable but if you go back to december 2019, we are reminded she was one of the first toptier candidates to flame out of the democratic race. She ran a terrible campaign, she flipflopped on issues a lot, she had some constantly resigning, financial problems and she ended up with terrible whole numbers. She doesnt necessarily have a track record as a great politician or a lot of experience in the senate so this is a little bit of a risk for joe biden. Paul bill, what do you think . One thing she can do well is go on the attack and i think biden picture in part because she will prosecute the case against donald trump. I agree. If you look at the first debate, she treated joe biden the way a prosecutor would. Then she had a problem when she tried to explain got caught up in inconsistencies but i think she may be an asset as a Vice President candidate. Shes there to support the president , president ial candidate. The president ial candidate sets the tone and talking points and if she sticks to that, i think it will help her boost the ticket. The other ironing, shes supposed to excite the Africanamerican Community but she didnt do that in the primaries. It was joe biden excited the Africanamerican Community. Maybe she appeals to the younger set of africanamericans but overall, i think she will help the ticket. Paul ted, some one pretty far to the left, Kamala Harris is not going to please progressives. As i listen to the response, i dont hear a lot of criticism even from the left of senator harris. What do you hear . In the 48 hours, joe bidens campaign raised 50 million and reportedly 150,000 came from people first time biden donors. I do think theres a bit of a risk and that she is far left during the campaign. Theres a debate for candidates were asked for the they want to eliminate insurance and it was Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris. She talked about banning right to work laws, if she was elected president , should give congress 100 days to pass gun control if they refuse to, she would act on her own so if you are not a trump voter, middleoftheroad, if you spend time in deer season, you may think twice about that. Paul if you are a progressive, you would like that. Joe biden named his successor as president given his age and shes a professor and thats how we take the white house. That be energizing for them . I think it cuts both ways but the Trump Campaign is trying to make sure they dont forget that. The Trump Campaign rolled out Kamala Harris, joe bidens new handler. They will definitely make the argument that given joe bidens age, if she is the Vice President , she will be the next generation front runner for 20 2024. Paul bill, what does this tell you about joe biden in his decisionmaking . Its another step joe biden has taken to the left. In some ways, joe biden and Kamala Harris are in the business of deciding the agenda. They are being pushed by the bernie wing and they want to win. No matter what they want, joe and kamala were be there when needed because their party is going up. This is an administration that will be staffed by Kamala Harris is up and down. In some ways, it doesnt matter her pick. The party has made a decision to go left. Joe biden made the decision to go left and hes talked about being more radical than Barack Obamas administration. Paul thank you, all. When we come back, days away from the Democratic National convention, how will the democrats roll out their agenda . How will the parties get along . Hike Simon Pagenaud takes the lead at the indy 500 coming to the green flag, racing at daytona. Theyre off. In the kentucky derby. Rory mcllroy is a two time champion at east lake. He scores stanley cup champions touchdown only mahomes. The big events are back and xfinity is your home for the return of live sports. Democrats are set to take time time station next week at the National Convention where they will roll out their agenda to the American Public for the parties leaders, joe biden and Bernie Sanders present and what can we expect to learn about their strategy for november . Lets bring back kim, phil and kyle. Kyle, how unified for the democrats here is the end of the convention . Bill seems to make them unified. I think they will be unified, too. They will help paper over the differences. The first thing about the democrat conventions will be whether the American People are ready to tune in for a two hour zoom meeting. For example, theres one congressman from california who already said hes voting against the partys platform because it doesnt have medicare for all but if this were a real convention, in person vote like that would be better. Journalists would be looking for disgruntled Bernie Sanders supporters and you wont have that this year. Paul i have a theory, the democrats are not going to be talking much at all about their agenda. Well have slogans about healthcare and they will talk about Police Reform but theyre not going to get into any detail, it will be too many folks. Tax on donald trump, blaming him for every virus infection and death and then they will talk about joe bidens biography in the alternative to donald trump. Is that wrong . I couldnt agree with you more. Got to give him credit to perez, hes managed to keep the radio silence on the platform that they settled on about three weeks ago. He said almost nothing because of the unity document between Bernie Sanders and joe biden does pull the party far to the left and even though it does, you had a lot of people mentioning they are unhappy he didnt go further. Too many people here about global agenda and unity being exposed on the floor so you are correct, this will be about donald trump, its motivating to the voters, its one thing that holds across the spectrum. Then they have to do their best to reassure people about joe biden given the questions about his age. Paul bill, what you think about the agenda, is it going to be stuck in a back door someplace and hoping it doesnt appear until january 21, 2021 . For the sanders people insist some of the things be debated. I agree with kyle, the fact that its a Virtual Convention makes it easier to squelch that. By agreeing on the unity platform earlier, they remove one of the big parts of discontent. Its a the donald trump rally they have more control over the event. To me, the most important thing is how Kamala Harris handles her acceptance speech. Typically, the night he is the pacman against the Vice President. We saw her do that in the primaries. My question is whether she will serve that role in the campaign because im not sure joe biden is up to it. Paul kim, aoc will be here, alexandria ocasiocortez. Are they trying to muscle down some of their controversial voices . Absolutely. Apparently shes only getting about one minute to speak. Instead, most of the agenda is going to be superstars, Michelle Obama is coming out and they will make a big deal. Right now they just got the name. Itssss geicos been helping people save money for over 75 years. Theyve really stood the test of time. Much like these majestic rocky mountains. Which must be named after the. That would be rocky the flying squirrel, mr. Gecko sir. Obviously ahh come on bullwinkle, theyre named after. Our first president george rockington that doesnt even make any sense. Mr. Uhh. Winkle. Geico. Over 75 years of savings and service. Is schools across the country reopening classrooms this fall, Trump Administration increases pressure on districts that are weary of holding in person classes. President trump hosted an event with peers and teachers on wednesday where he called for additional funding for the plan to send students into the classroom. If they choose to remain virtual, the money should follow the students to the parent and child can decide what alternatives are best for them. Joining me now, betsy devos. Secretary, thanks for joining us. Let me ask before we get to the schools, to Court Victories you have this week on your new role on how to handle Sexual Assault cases on campus. What is the most important reform schools will have to follow in your field . A big day for the title nine rule we made final in may that goes into effect today. The important piece of this, it rolls back a dramatic overreach on the Previous Administration and it really respects and protects both victims and those accused, making sure due process protections are in place. Its a balanced approach to a difficult issue and we think its going to help, we know it will help victims and those accused as well as the institutions that have to navigate through these things and hopefully it will them get on the side of prevention and education to ensure that incidents of Sexual Misconduct dont continue happening on campus is. Paul lets go to schools and whats your response to those educators around the country who say would like to go back in the classroom but its not safe to do so. What is your response to . The president of this Administration Things parents and kids should be in charge of the kids education. We are seeing in too many places that kids are not at the center of these considerations. The teachers unions are overplaying, showing their hands i should say, and demand that they want met before they will consider going into the classroom. Its about defunding police, universal healthcare, rolling back and killing Charter Schools. Its about killing the washington d. C. Opportunity scholarship program. So parents and kids and families should not be held captive to others fears or agendas and they have to be in the drivers seat when it comes to their futures. A child at seven years old wants. You cant get that time back and its important to be in the classroom. Paul classroom is better than virtual instruction but what about the safety . Can you guarantee teachers and the kids will be safe . Weve already seen some infections break out in some schools. There are schools across the country going back into session and are doing it safely. They are taking all precautions and following good guidelines and recommendations of the cdc in applying them depending on their unique situation. They are given tools to the cdc that if there is an incident of the virus, how to navigate that and handle it. These things can be done safely, it just takes the will to do them and the focus on who we are talking about and that is kids in the
