Fire closes Catwalk Written by Nickolas Seibel on March 16, 2021 In the wake of a small fire in Whitewater Canyon over the weekend, the Glenwood Ranger District of the Gila National Forest announced Monday that the Catwalk Recreation Area has been temporarily closed due to hazard trees post-fire. “There are concerns about people venturing into the burned area,” Gila National Forest spokeswoman Marta Call told the Daily Press on Monday, adding that the closure would last “probably for two weeks.” Forest Order 03-06-04-21-009 was officially signed March 14 to close the Catwalk Recreation Area, since there are hazard trees that will have to be brought down. See fs.usda.gov/alerts/gila/alerts-notices for more information about the closure, along with a map of the closed area.
