The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter had five callouts on Saturday. A beacon search and an early-morning winch were among callouts on a busy weekend for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter. Pilot Tim Douglas-Clifford said the rescue helicopter was called out after a personal locator beacon was activated in the Goulter Valley, in Marlborough around 3pm on Saturday. A woman had injured her leg and was flown to Nelson Hospital. That afternoon and into the evening, the helicopter flew to medical events in Motueka, Tapawera and Takaka. Around 2am on Sunday morning, it was called to another medical event on the southern end of D’urville Island. The patient had to be winched off the property and was flown to Nelson Hospital.
