A cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim caused a flash flood in the Teesta River basin, resulting in at least eight deaths and 49 people missing, including 23 army personnel. The flood was worsened by the release of water from the Chungthang dam. Several towns in the Teesta basin were flooded, and parts of National Highway-10 were washed away. The Sikkim government has declared the calamity a disaster, and a flood alert has been issued for North Bengal and Bangladesh. Relief camps have been set up, and the government is providing assistance to those affected.
