FLINT, MI -- There have been nine homicides in Flint due to gun violence in the month of April thus far, according to the Flint Police Department.
Flint Police Chief Terence Green called on the community to come forward with information on violent crime to prevent further homicides during a Thursday, April 29 news conference held in response to the recent increase in shootings and violent crime.
“With this rash of violent crime, we need the community and we ask the community to assist and step up, provide information, assist in preventing these crimes,” Green said. “These acts of violence that we’ve seen in the last two to three weeks -- let me be clear about this -- they aren’t random acts of violence. They’re not random acts of violence, they’re targeted. People involved are the drivers of crime. We know who they are. We’ve had contact with them in the past in one way or another but we truly believe that these crimes can be prevented by the community stepping up and giving us a call. Engaging in conflict resolution within their own households, within their own community, their own families.”
