Floodplain changes coming to Allen County LIMA — FEMA is bringing new changes to Allen County’s floodplain map. While some floodplain areas are set to shrink, many more will be growing in Allen County, leading to possible changes to flood insurance rates. Those proposed changes are now under review by the Lima-Allen County Regional Planning Commission. “FEMA has designated certain areas of the county as a floodplain, and those are low-lying areas that historically flood,” said RPC Executive Director Shane Coleman. “Those floodplains get re-evaluated, like anything, every so often, so it was our turn to have re-evaluation done. FEMA has come through, and they are proposing some new mapping that’s all based upon new technologies and new information that they have available.”
