Gardner News WESTMINSTER — The announcement this week that Town Administrator Mark Hawke will be leaving his post in June to work in the Gardner Public Schools district took many residents by surprise, but the former Chair City mayor says his new position as the district’s director of finance and operations was something he had been interested in for the past several years. Hawke was unanimously elected to be the district’s DFO (a position previously called the business administrator) by the School Committee after being nominated by Superintendent Mark Pellegrino during their meeting on April 12. “The position of business administrator is something I had looked into some six years ago or so and (former Superintendent) Dr. Carol Daring had helped me with the process of certification,” said Hawke. “I wasn’t looking for a new position as I am quite happy working with the great people of Westminster.”
