Accused killing 18 people and injuring 13 others. In maine has stretched into a second day. The father of one of the victims becoming emotional talking about his late child who was the manager at the bar, which was one of the two shooting locations. I go to church i believe in the law and i believe in. But why do we have to go through these kind of miserable, miserable times . This has never happened in our two cities, never is the worst thing thats ever happened. These two cities where it just really hit you hard watching the victims and the families, those who are suffering tonight as the manhunt continues. Welcome back, everybody. Im kevin corke in denver. Jenkins kevin, great to be with you on this busy friday morning of Breaking News. Its 3 a. M. On the east coast, 10 a. M. In israel. And thats where we turn now to the middle east. U. S. Fighter jets striking iran linked sites. Syria a short while ago in retaliation for attacks on american troops in the middle east. The strikes follow a 19 attacks on us bases in iraq and syria thats injured at least 21 u. S. Personnel. Meanwhile all lets go now to fox news correspondent mike tobin, whos on the ground in israel with the latest. Good morning, mike. Good morning, greg. From the very latest is, of course, the u. S. Has now engaged in combat in the region, striking at two targets in Eastern Syria, very near the iraq border. And two of these targets are bases, if you will, used by the Iranian Revolutionary guard corps. And this is in response to repeated attacks, more than 21 attacks over the past two days against u. S. Personnel by Iranian Proxies. And the attacks have come in the form of missile and Drone Attacks against these personnel, and they have resulted in some injuries. And one u. S. Contractor died of a heart attack while he was sheltering in place from from these rocket and Drone Attacks. You have some 21 u. S. Personnel who have suffered minor injuries, things like traumatic brain injuries. So the u. S. Has responded to this. But a statement from u. S. Defense secretary lloyd austin was very deliberate to mention ,as it does not change, it does not represent shift in the approach to the u. S. Support of israel, the war between israel and hamas. Now, the u. S. Has been sending things, has always supported israels military and has been sending things like 155 millimeter shells to support the the israeli artillery and also interceptors for the iron dome system. Another iron dome battery was being sent to israel, but it does not change the fact that there have been a couple of strikes. It does not change u. S. Support to israel. The u. S. Has bolstered its personnel with some 900 personnel moved to Fences Likethat missile batteries, Patriot Missile batteries and additional iron dome batteries to to the area. But the u. S. Was very quick to say doesnt change. This does not represent a shift in the u. S. Policy, but also that the u. S. Will not hesitate to use force if. These attacks against u. S. Personnel in the region continue. Meantime, the israeli strikes into the gaza strip continue and there has been another israeli incursion into the gaza strip. As far as Ground Forces being used, this has been in the area of sharjah, which is to the northern end of the strip. And usually what we see now with these incursions into the gaza strip, the israelis say that this is about removing Personnel Hamas infrastructure and antitank infrastructure. All It Preparation for this anticipated Ground Invasion. Griff witte mike, i just want to follow up on that. And of course we understand that a Ground Invasion is is imminent could come at any time now so that the Ground Incursion, that small brief Ground Incursion you just mentioned. Big news overnight. Our viewers now just learning about it. But is that perhaps a little bit of a prod, a little bit of a prelude to, preparing the battle space before this incursion anticipated incursion may come. I think preparation of the battlefield is the is the precise word to use there. And thats what were getting from the israelis. We saw yesterdays incursion. They brought out the big armor plated D9 Bulldozers and they talked about removing antitank positions. Ive been in gaza and ive seen one of the things that palestinians do time and time again is they make giant sand berms, which would be an obstacle to the merkava tanks in as far as combat. You bring in the bulldozers, you can get the sand out of the way and make it easier for the israeli armor to move the gaza strip. You also know that there are a lot of traps that are being set. Quite possibly the israelis are getting on the ground, removing those traps, fighting positions that hamas would use. So you really described it best, saying preparation of the ground ahead of the planned incursion in just, i guess, a follow for what we may see. Its obviously friday heading into the weekend. We may see further proxies because on fridays, of course, attacks have come. Any sense for sort of where were headed . We go into the weekend, mike . Well, one of the things you note is, in fact, i just heard from from an expert, an israeli think tank pointed out something that i guess is is rather obvious. We dont think about it that often. Iran doesnt get its own hands dirty. Iran operates through its proxies, through hezbollah, always an iranian proxy. The houthis and hamas was once independent. They ran out of money and iran was very quick to open its arms and open its purse strings. And now they do. Hamas doing their dirty work for them here in the region, which is also very interesting because hamas is a sunni organization. Iranians, of course, are fiercely shiite. But when they a common enemy, theyll come together. And when theyre useful to iran and hamas needs money, thats an alliance of convenience. Griff mike tobin live for us on the ground in israel. Turning now to our other big story overnight, Law Enforcement working round the clock to hunt down the gunman suspected of killing at least 18 people in maine. Were learning that agents from ,an elite Border Patrol tactical unit, are on the ground assisting with the search. We turn now to fox news correspondent molly line. Shes live in lewiston, maine, with the very latest. Molly, i just been going over some of the victims in this circumstance. A bar who loved sports, an avid bowler and husband, a pipefitter with a twoyearold daughter. Another hard worker raised thousands of dollars for Breast Cancer research. It is the devastating reality. People, neighbors, loved ones who are the victims in this senseless crime, in a community is obviously hurting this morning. Yeah, it is heartbreaking to see whats unfolded here in this community. You mentioned just some of the victims. A lot of fathers on that of victims. And here we are, more than 24 hours after the two Mass Shooting sites, after this occurred. And the suspect in this case, robert card, remains at large. You mentioned that elite unit that is an elite Border Patrol unit, border tac agents, they are now here on the ground in maine, joining a great deal of assets that are now out all over rural area, rural community. There are these small cities like, the city of lewiston, surrounded by other smaller communities and dotted between that, the fields and the waterways and some pretty difficult terrain. The border tech agents, theyre joining many others that are here on the ground per bill maloof and of course the senior senior customs and Border Patrol sources telling us that theyve been very successful, resolving several high profile cases. Most recently, danielle cavalcante, the pennsylvania murderer that had been escaped, they hope to hunt down that individual and bring him back into custody. A very busy here on the ground. Throughout the evening, though, the suspect, Robert Carter, is from a nearby community bowdon, where the his family has a number of properties. Its kind of a compound situation. There are a number of structures on that property. A lot of action there. The course of a couple of hours this evening. There were flash bangs and Law Enforcement calling for someone in those buildings to come out ,specifically referencing robert or anyone else that was inside to come out peacefully, hands up, that they wanted a peaceful resolution. No one ultimately came out. And then once Search Warrants were executed. Turns out there was no one in there. We dont know if they collected any evidence that might helpful in the investigation. Still waiting to hear more on that and. The other thing were learning is that the coast guard is now involved. That is another agency joining a long list of assets that are involved in this. They had a helicopter up earlier in the day near boothbay, which a beautiful scenic oceanside, part of maine saying that they got a hit. There have been a lot of these this type of information coming out that theres some sort of tip and Law Enforcement over response and looks to see if theres anything there. But thus far, no sign of robert card. Molly, i want to drill down little bit on what you just mentioned there. This idea that the coast teams are. I know that the car was ditched not in, but in another town, not even in lewiston. And i guess there are waterways and tributaries, as you and i have previously. Im fairly familiar with maine, as are you. I know that a lot of ways to hop on to a watercraft and try to make your way out of a particular area fairly quickly. I thats why at least it would seem the coast guard is also part of the search. Is that your understanding . Yes. So the where the vehicle was found, the suspect vehicle was a white subaru. It was found in nearby community about 10 minutes away. The communitys name is lisbon. Through that town. Theres a long river and as you mentioned, the dock. So now theres hasnt been any strong clarity that robert card exiting the vehicle went to the dock and got in a specific boat ,went somewhere specifically. But nothings been ruled out at this point in time. Investigators dont know where the individual went, where this went. So they havent ruled anything out. And youre right, maine is filled with rivers and a whole lot of lakes as well. Lots of swamp, but also beautiful coastal oceanside. And for someone, as they know, robert card, to be someone whos familiar with the water, with boats, its certainly not something theyve ruled out. And so the coast guard is now among many agencies that are involved looking at, you know, possibly robert card escaping via water and in some way. Kevin, one more i want to just bring your way and this is all im going to ask you to sort of draw on your experience. I know that you mentioned the previous manhunt of the escaped convict. We also had the Boston Marathon circumstance. How does this compare in terms of what youve seen collectively in terms of resource is coming on the ground . Yes, there are limited resources when you are relatively city, 35,000 or so, but when you bring the full weight of the state of maine and what would appear to be a growing of federal assets, im imagining that is perhaps different than your previous experience. What can you tell us about that . Molly . You know, every a search for a suspect, every manhunt has its own unique circumstance is. But of those two scenarios that you talked about, the Boston Marathon bombing manhunt followed and the Dannemora Prison Escape The prison escape is more similar to what were seeing here terrain wise, even even suspect wise. This suspect, robert card, has the same sort of capabilities as matt and sweat. Who were they . Prisoners that escape from the Dannemora Prison and similar terrain, you know, Upstate New York and all across maine. There are these rural areas in potential cabins and hiding spots. The two inmates that had escaped in dannemora had holed up for a period of time in a remote cabin. In this case that could be a possibility, perhaps robert cray managed to escape and find a place to hole up. The question is whether or not he planned that part of this or stumbled upon. It is out there in the and could lock out on on something and so is there a Bunker Type Scenario where if there was this was part of the plan an escape plan was in place then is there somewhere where there are and and clothing and facilities that someone whos escaping might want . Or is that not part of the plan . But it could still be something thats stumbled upon similar to what happened in dannemora, the Boston Marathon bombing, that for a period of time in that manhunt, the suspects is what put forward. And investigators didnt know yet who they were in this case. They put out a name fairly quickly, the horrific events that unfolded just before 7 p. M. Were happening here in the in the city of lewiston and by 11 00 that night, they had announced Robert Carter, the person of interest, and had put his picture out and had some information to work with. The Boston Marathon bombing had a little bit of a different and there were days where they werent sure who were the suspects were. It was a longer period of time. And then ultimately it was a very violent and they were very wellarmed with bombs and everything. When they tried to escape and move through the neighborhoods just outside of boston. But at this point in time, we do know that this individual, robert ray, potentially very dangerous, not only from the information we have from clearly allegedly involved in the murders intent that it happened, these two buildings, but also just skill wise, this is someone who served in the military, the army reserves. We know that hes trained were weapons are concerned hunting experience, potential survival experience, boating experience, kind of an Outdoorsman Type of person in, a state with a lot of opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities. So this may be something that hes very familiar with, the terrain and everything else. Kevin, an absolute chess match obviously unfolding, right before our very eyes. Terrific reporting, as always.
