Pro israel counter protesters all involved. Good evening i am jon scott and this is the fox report. Todays and violence that ucla comes a students and educators across the country try to stir up anger about u. S. Support for israel. Putting on a massive demonstrations at columbia New York City paid George Washington university in d. C. And arizona state. Christina coleman has the latest of ucla. Jon it appears we are having difficulty getting christinas microphone working. Obviously shes in a difficult situation. Will try and restore that and get back to you or get her back on the air as soon a siu can. On the east coast of Columbia University in new york promises it will not again call and police to remove protesters. Senior correspondent Steve Harrigan is live at columbia it with more on that change of heart. Jon, more than 200 protesters arrested overnight for that number continues to rise day by day. Most of those arrests at Northeastern University in boston. Officials there said they only called in the police after chancellor heard of kill the jews. Officials there say many of the protesters were professional outside organizers who came on the campus to stir up trouble. Meantime mort demonstrations at George Washington university as wellin d. C. A statue of washington was vandalized one a 16yearold prospective students, jewish, said he was harassed by the protesters while visiting the campus with his family. Trying to walk down the streets i am being blocked. People standing in front of him 16 years old ive grown men and grown women coming up to me putting their hands on me trying to keep me away. You talk to some jewish students at columbia, some say they have begun to hide their identity out of fear for their own security. I definitely would not walk on certain areas with The Star Of David but sometimes i tuck it in and certain holidays i mean like a passover i like to wear but i told that down because its definitely not the best idea. The gate behind me they say theyll officials of the universitys they will they will not call in the police a second time. Theyve given assurances to the protesters for jon, back to you. Jon Steve Harrigan at Columbia University. It would seem, there was a lot of attention paid when police did move in an arrest that first batch of protesters. It seemed to quiet some of the trouble they are. Why would columbia announce for not going to do that again . Can you explain that . It does seem unusual to give your tactics to the other side in advance. We have seen administrators struggle with just how to handle this all across the country. Interestingly we have seen some real success in some places like florida they threaten students with a three year suspension. With other universities like emory they used tear gas immediately or others in texas at austin they sent in police on horseback. Often a quick forcible response has produced quite on campuses campusthis backandforth that columbia has just produced two weeks of headaches. Jon Steve Harrigan at Colombia Columbiauniversity in new york,k you. We are driving little controversy. First up the Boston Magazine contributing editor who wrote a fascinating new piece titled White Harvard university is failing at everything. Jon keller is the author of that piece. Heat joins us now. It is an interesting article as i said and a long one. Why is harvard failing at everything . Oh well, jon, first of all thank you for having me. Basically when you talk about harvard you have to understand you are talking about huge institution. There are many different harvards. The harvard we are talking about in this context is the undergraduate element of it. The faculty of arts and sciences. Basically what has happened is harvard seems to have lost the thread of how to run their institution. The corporation that harvard is has become so big, so complex with so many competing interests its basically turning out to be ungovernable. Certainly not governable by the administrators who brought in a whole set of ideas about tolerance that are not necessarily in accord with the law at least so say those who are suing the university over concerns about antisemitism. Jon it did not help the former president newly resigned was accused of plagiarism. The kind of academic corruption that corrodes an elite school. Really any school. Harvards slog slogan says it there on the seal. Truth. But thats really the element harvard has struggled with the most and so many different ways. Harvard does not like to Tell The Truth about itself to the outside world but does not even care to communicate very effectively with the outside world. Nay dont Tell The Truth about what they have been doing to combat Campus Antisemitism for this article in Boston Magazine. I interviewed a distinguished razz by rabbi who was appointed to a task force to study antisemitism on the campus after october 7. And to make recommendations a die of diggers of people were on it. They started making recommendations on a daily basis he finally resigned and discussed saying it was because they were not acting on the recommendations there is a paralysis there. I got this assignment to write about harvards woes before the infamous congressional hearing were Clotting Gate and the other College President s made unwanted headlines around the world. So they were problems that harvard they go back a long way. But certainly know the world knows about it struggles to come up with a coherent policy to make the campus safe for. Most people would think harvard is the premier, the preeminent u. S. University. But, your Research Suggests its toppling in many of those area. is gone a long way to fall. No one involved with the running of a harvard is going to miss a meal anytime in the near future. The endowment is still the Largest University endowment in the world. Harvard still excels in many, many ways. So lets be fair about this. But the bloom is off the rose. Its been a very difficult time. The endowment is down. Job placements for its graduates are down. And the wake of the hamfisted response to october 7, many prominent donors have started to pull their funding from harvard and expressed anger over what is become of Harvard Bridge thats the kind of thing that really gets their attention. Far more than anything you or i might say. Arthel Jon Keller Contributing Editor at Boston Magazine i would point our viewers to that piece is quite good, thank you. Thank you. What needs to happen at least at the beginning is the universityuniversity president so get control of the situation. Allow free speech and push back against antisemitism. We have seen reports they are being paid to do this. I believe there are paid agitators that go around too different events. All they want to do is disrupt other peoples lives. They need to get a life of their own. Our investigation will be wide ranging and deep. Jon those are some of their public and lawmakers urging College Administrators to defend their campuses in the midst of all the Turmoil Defense of Freedom Spokeswoman angela is here to wait and she was Press Secretary for former education secretary betsy devos. Thanks angela very much for being with us. What is it deriving this campus evil really . Quick search quite a few forces in play. First and most obvious of the students the schools have admitted and the faculty they have hired antisemitic outbreaks are not just unfortunate occurrences that happen sometimes its a very predictable outcome of Higher Education system that for too long for tickly at the elite levels has allowed the hate and ignorance to fester. Its also a consequence of as well networked and funded set of organizations that are helping coordinate these protests. Its also what happens when you have a failure of leadership at the highest levels. All it takes is one phone call for kobe to bring in the cops. For any schools use the resources at their disposal to protect their jewish students. They are making a conscious choice not to do so for. And sorry to interrupt columbia said they are not going to call and the cops again for they did it once, not going to do it again. That is right there handing these protesters these Terrorist Sympathizers their playbook. Quite frankly protesters are accomplishing when they set out to do which is so chaos of jewish students who are afraid to walk across campus just to go to class or see their friends. You got the university of Southern California saying they are canceling their mainstage graduation. They are giving up and allowing the proverbial inmates to run the asylum rather than to do the bare minimum to provide a Safe Learning environment. Jon some of those inmates and professors are demanding amnesty in the middle of all of this. Saying if they get arrested or if they miss a class or if they dont turn in a paper they should get amnesty because of the import of the protests. What you think about that . It is patently ridiculous. When these people said they went amnesty with a really mean is they want privilege where they want a double standard to be looked at differently in the eyes of the law because of who they are and what they are doing. All of these colleges are legal adults that should be treated as such. They need to be held accountable and face consequences for their illegal actions. Jon has is like a plan to me k you. Was go back once again to another college where this is happening again put ucla campus Christina Coleman is there live. Hi jon. I can type emotions are running high here on campus this is an example of what we are talking about. You can sees of the pro israelite protesters who are upset for them and going back and forth with one of the pro Palestinian Protesters as you can see there are lots of security here. Were going to go ahead and move this way walking throughout the campus. You can see a lot of Law Enforcement here they are on bikes. Their officers, a whole line of them moments ago heading back the other way. There was a large group of protesters just moments ago it looks like the groups are dispersing. Go out and take a look at this video from earlier. Pro is really an rally went off at ucla this morning it was met with counter protesters who came to demonstrate in support of an ongoing pro Palestinian Cam and on campus. Eventually some quote physical altercations broke out after one of the groups breached a barrier designed to keep it to protest separate parade that according to a short Statement Released by the university this afternoon. It is unclear which side escalated the situation. The rally was organized by a coalition of outside proisrael groups in support of jewish ucla students. Take a listen. We arrange this in advance it was permanent we had flyers. When we indulge this kind of thing we not only incentivize them we also and incentivize bad behavior. Weight cant incentivize bad behavior not in the middle east and not right here on her campuses. [inaudible] quickly just want the other side to look into our arguments. Like the other side they just call everyone hamas supporters and calling everyone terrorist. You can see some of the officers are leaving. A lot of the protesters have cleared out. Again emotions running very, very high. Pro Palestinian Protesters are calling the University Divestment from israel. The university putting out a statement on Friday Singapore at the University Of California has consistently opposed calls for boycott against an divestment from israel. While the university affirms the right of our Community Members to express diversity of viewpoints and boycott of the sorts impinges on the Academic Freedom of our students and faculty. Unfettered exchange of ideas on our campus. As you can see within moments it has cleared out. But again within moments emotions run high its gotten very tense. We saw that earlier today. Hundreds of people here on campus youve pro Palestinian Protesters, pro israeli protesters a number of times they were in each others faces for they were yelling, they were shouting we have had a chance from some pro Palestinian Protesters chanting from the river to the sea. Again very hurtful for the pro israeli protesters here on campus. Again it right now things are very calm we are hoping they say that way. Jon i may have missed it in the earlier part of your report, christina but did anyone get arrested . Did police tell any of the people away do you know . So far no word on arrested no word on exactly who started the altercation. Again all we know there were some barricades that were breached. Things got pretty tense. He hasnt university condemning any violence here. Again this is a very ongoing Fluid Situation throughout the university you will see different groups of protesters some groups have two or three students. Others have 20 or 30. That is kind of in how this is playing out to the past hour. I know a Law Enforcement was working to disperse those groups and try to keep things calm clear on campus. Jon i have a daughter who attended there and glad she is gone. Christina coleman, thank you. Thank you. Now to our other top story but intense weekend storm set up a deadly Tornado Outbreak across the heartland this week. The governor of oklahoma said at least four people were killed and infant reportedly among them. Twelve oklahoma counties under State Of Emergency as Cleanup Efforts are underway now. Tens of thousands of people are without power. Millions still face the threat of Severe Weather. Strong winds and twisters tour park homes, churches and businesses. Oklahoma, iowa and nebraska among the hardest hit states. One driver is lucky to be alive after being caught driving in the middle of a powerful storm yesterday oklahoma. She quickly flipped over like five times. I heard the whistling so bad and i was over there. We have Team Boxing Coverage Fox with a correspondent Nicole Valdes and hardhit elkhorn, nebraska first Meteorologist Adam Klotz with a light look at the forecast for us. Hey there, jon. Very active weekend for beginning to fade out a little bit still, as we speak there is some risk of tornadoes particularly across portions of Eastern Texas for thats where we have seen the most activity so far today. Its too on a scale of five is first threat goes to print is on the lower end but we have seen a couple storms continue to fire up. Its very similar to what was in the last several days. Still all the storm stretched across the middle of the country however the more impactful ones at least today are little further south there is current severe thunderstorms were coming across portions of oklahoma. We know how badly they have been hit the severe thunderstorm has went up to 60 miles per hour. At least some hail wrapped in with all the storm systems. A little further south we have a couple tornado worn to storms thats what youre looking at right here. These have been slow moving about 25 miles an hour. That variable could be a tornado on the grip. Receiving rotation here in our forecast in our radar imagery. A little further south we have another Tornado Warning thats two current treated warning stretching across portions of texas for this is going to continue for the next several hours and relate texas for the rest of today into the overnight hours is going to be the bullseye. Jon Meteorologist Adam Klotz, thank you. They too picking up the pieces for nebraska residents is more potential storms and tornadoes loom over them. Officials say multiple homes of been destroyed by tornado so far thousands of people or so without power tonight. Fox weather it Nicole Valdes has more from one cleanup site just outside omaha. The horror across americas heartland build gut wrenching the entry second day of cleanup here in elkhorn, nebraska. And unfortunately for so many storms have really complicated todays cleanup. It is not stop the army of volunteers working to clear an immense amount of debris that now surround the shell of what were dozens of home and this one community is loan. As you take a look at what was once a line of homes now leveled. In some cases nothing but a pile of debris. Pieces of wood and metal siding and roofs and t torn to pieces e sheer force of the monster tornado that moved through this community friday afternoon. It is a terrifying and Nights Nebraskans will not soon forget as many of them are likely re living through that moment. As they look over what was once their h
