Former president Donald Trumps arrival at valdosta, georgia. He has gone to georgia to the area just days after Hurricane Tour through the state and many others. The former president says he will bring Relief Materials with him. On the list over fuel, equipment, water. Communities across the southeast are beginning to really take a look at what they face ahead. Its catastrophic. I had a State Representative last hour from North Carolina saying the thing he fears most right now is the unknown. In many parts of western North Carolina for example, including asheville, the water is only beginning to reseed. The storm hit four days ago. The damage on the ground is unimaginable. We can now report the Death Toll of Hurricane Helene is above 107. They anticipate finding more people. They cant get to the houses were some 600 people remain unaccounted for. You are watching outnumbered. Im Harris Faulkner with my Cohosts Kayleigh Mcenany and emily compagno. Also joining us today, Hudson Institute senior fellow Rebeccah Heinrichs and Fox News Contributor and former utah congressman jason chaffetz. Lets begin in fox weather sensor. Kiyana lewis is live now from the Biltmore Village Area of asheville carolina. We are here in the historic area of the biltmore village, an area that is unfortunately after Hurricane Helenes hurricane came through. You will notice that there is a Fuel Tank tumbled over high winds making its landfall. Beyond this creek, its believed to have risen about 20 feet up into the village area, bringing in this debris across the region. Looking at this tree, thats an indication of how high at one point this water had gotten. We have all that Debris Lofted into that tree. Theres a lot of home items, restaurant items, a lot of Business Items as well. On top of that, its money everywhere. Thats a big deal here. The mud has not allowed for folks to get in or around it. Thats good. Right now, most of it looks very similar to what you are looking at right now. Thank you for that report. Taking in the last part of what you were saying. That mud is very heavy, a Rich Beautiful Soil most of the time, but right now, it is an albatross in that region because it makes movements, as you pointed out, very slow. Steve harrigan is also reporting for us and assessing the devastation in asheville, North Carolina, in particular. You heard our Fox Weather Reporter talking about the conditions for moving around. What is it like . The water is just starting to reseed. You are in drier ground than when we saw you last hour. Thats right. This is some of what its leaving behind. You can get a sense of the force of the storm. These were once 18wheelers, and are now smashed and stacked on top of each other by this storm. He mentioned the Death Toll at 107. We are learning at least two of those killed were sheriffs deputies. We dont know the details, but they may have been acting as first responders trying to save people when they gave their lives. 100 Law Enforcement have been brought in because of concerned about looting. They are looking for the basics. Most people we talk to, Food And Water. About 2 00 p. M. about two hours from now, we are going to expect some temporary stations for Food And Water to start distribution. Still, 400,000 people with no power, no running water. Officials are basically saying the shelters full under these conditions, dont come here now. When you say nearly half a million, its 400,000 people right now without power just in your immediate newsgathering, but there are people out that we know have not been reached yet. What part of the population does that represent . Is that most of the areas you are in . It is all. You see people going Old School walking with a Fuel Tank, checking on people to see if they are Dead Or Alive by bicycle. We are going backwards in time to try and do things after this storm. This is kayleigh. I read a public Press Release from the city of asheville and said that restoring services for water for the full system could potentially take weeks. North carolina public radio says that could mean 100,000 people in asheville without tap water. What are they going to do . That is an amazing statistic. You get a sense when you try and drive around, the challenges. Youve got huge posts, huge trees really on every corner. Being able to move is going to be a challenge. They are not asking for much right now. They dont have cell phone service, dont have electricity, dont have water, dont have shelters they want food, water, and maybe to clean themselves at this point. God bless them. Steve harrigan, you are doing a great job of bringing us all of these stories. Its important that america sees this. We are in it together. Thank you. Jason chaffetz, having been on The Hill, i know that you have been in those discussions among leadership about how do we first respond. Its on everybody. I had a State Representative saying hes reaching out to all the lawmakers on The Hill and it will take everybody. It takes everybody. This is where the best part of america, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Its not about blue or red or anything else. Its about life at this point, compassion, stepping up. Those of us that arent effective, that arent affected, cannot Step Up and help. They have immediate needs. They need water. You have infants who need formula. You have got to be able to have some food and nourishments, and then you are going to have to deal with the disease and the fungus and all the other negative Side Effects that Start Setting in right away. You cant just flip on the Switch And Turn on the electricity because you dont want to start electric union people. You have to clear those lines, clearly debris. I think the inspirational stories that will come out of this will be the neighbor who helps another neighbor. Thats what makes america great. You are talking about disease. You have heard so many talk about the mosquitoes. Some of these people are outside, they dont have any place to go. You heard steve saying shelters are filling up. Fema had not gotten to many of the areas in a couple of these states. Many of the roads were unpossible. I think of the War Zones my dad fought in, that others have fought in. We can do a lot with our military. I am wondering why at a point like this and i want to show this to everybody why President Biden as Commander In Chief hasnt done something different. Im not saying they havent done what they always do, but maybe this is different. We learn from katrina, from sandy. What did we learn . Months ago, President Biden was speaking at the White House pledging all the resources at his disposal to help communities devastated by Hurricane Helene. When the president finished and he was struggling mightily, could barely breathe, he was coughing. I dont know what his health is right now, but you couldnt miss it. As he quickly ended those news comments, the statements he made, and taking some questions i mean it was fast a Reporter And Mr mr. Biden got into it at The End. The reporter asked him why he was not monitoring the storm from the White House in command. Just watch for yourself. A hurricane mr. President, where I Want You and Vice President harris In Washington commanding this . This weekend . I was commanding at. I was on the phone for at least two Hours Yesterday and the day before as well. I committed on the telephone with all my security. Wow appeared kayleigh, on the phone the comms are down on the ground. You have a military at your disposal. Optics matter. People want to see the Chief Executive of this Country Dependably engaged. What came to mind when i saw that was 2022, Hurricane Laura, category four storm that hit louisiana. It was an election year, huge day for President Trump. It was the thursday he was set to give his rnc convention speech. Trump went to fema, He Sat there and listened to people. He said i may delay my rnc remarks. He ended up not doing that. Two days later he visited the people of that City And State to. What has biden done . He was in delaware, Kamala Harris was at a fundraiser. They have not been dependably engaged. Its monday. This hit thursday. Those remarks should have been given more than 48 hours ago. We need leadership and thats not what it looks like. Its being reported is Kamala Harris is going to cut short her campaigning and go back to the White House so that she can be briefed on this situation. Thats nice. Okay. For anyone depending on the federal government to come through efficiently, immediately or entirely will be disappointed. This is when, tell your points, local communities, churches Step Up. Its incredible. Lake junaluska in that area, samaritans purse, obviously mountain project, salvation army, manna food bank. Theres a lot going on that i urge you to explore. At The End of the day of course we have federal resources, but i havent ever seen them come through with the immediacy that locals can. Its important. I know i have mentioned this to you before. I volunteered with Gods Katrina Kitchen a year after Hurricane Katrina had devastated padevastated there many waves of it. The surgeons, the destruction, the disease, the fresh these are fellow americans. If Theres Anything we can do, Number One is pray and number two get local. Waiting for the feds to step in, for Kamala Harris to commute to come back to me is not a winning solution whatsoever. These americans need Help Now. It sounds like a Zoom Call with the backdrop. Rebeccah, You Saw Governor Desantis late last night talking about helping. We took a phone and live on fox. Talking about helping out North Carolina and other states that he felt like even though they had been hit and have had many deaths in florida, he could send resources. If you can help yourself and get that under control, you have an abundance where you can help your neighbor. Thats what the governor of florida is doing. He has been extremely competent in making sure even before the hurricane came so hes been ready to go. Im from a small town in rural ohio. Youve already seen something im familiar with. When big snowstorms hit, you see individual neighbors immediately going to help one another. The men with the trucks are already going with the chainsaws to clear debris. So you are right, we are not going to wait on the feds to go help. It will be neighbor to neighbor. Families affected by Hurricane Helene urgently need support. Weve been talking about that. Some of it needs to come in funds. The American Red Cross providing meals and shelter to the families, or will begin to do so even more. We know the roads are impassable still in many places. Donate today to Hurricane Helene by going to redcross. Org fox forward, and im hoping maybe emily could share some of those that she called out. There are some in eastern North Carolina in particular that are going to Help N that are going to need help. Will get those on our social pages. Local is important. The suspect in the second Assassination Attempt against former President Trump has just pleaded not guilty in federal court. The Attorney General defends releasing his open letter to the world. Next. Ego the suspect in former President Trumps second Assassination Attempt was just in court. Ryan routh pled not guilty to a new charge of attempted assassination of a president ial candidate. His Court Appearance comes as Attorney General Merrick Garland defends releasing Rouths Letter where he offered a 150,000 bounty on the former president. David spunt live In Washington with the latest. This was a quick Court Appearance for Ryan Routh. As mentioned, he pleaded not guilty. His Defense Team asks the indictment not be reread. That was his right that he does not have to hear the indictment read. This is going towards a jury trial. He could face up to the rest of his life behind bars for this charge of attempted assassination of a president ial candidate. You mentioned the letter from Attorney General Merrick Garland thats on the docket. The letter from Ryan Routh i should say, the suspect in this case. It was put on the docket a couple of weeks ago. Attorney general Merrick Garland says its simple. Asked him about it on friday. He says the doj filed the letter image for the public to see on the docket to try and keep him behind bars to show his intentions. Ultimately, it worked. Judge ordered him detained and he is detained pending trial. His probable Cause Hearing ended in minutes. Its not clear when the next hearing will be. At the judge did not set a next date. This will go to this Judge Aileen Cannon who overheard the trump Documents Case and ultimately dismissed that case. This letter, authorities say is in his hand. States he was attempting to assassinate the former president and includes an apology for failing to kill trump while Offering A 150,000 bounty for anyone who can finish the job. House judiciary chairman Jim Jordan In Washington says releasing the letter could harm former president by encouraging others to think they could potentially get paid by routh. Jordan says the Departments Decision to broadcast the attempted Assassins Bounty on President Trump at the same time that the department is aggressively and unconstitutionally prosecuting President Trump raises significant concern that the department could cause additional harm to occur. Ruths finances are unknown but he does have a public defender. I asked the Attorney General friday about criticism for putting the letter on that public docket. Here is his response. Our first job with respect to ruth was ensuring he be detained. When you file a detention motion, prosecutors have to make the most reasonable judgment they can about what evidence is necessary to ensure detention. Ryan routh could spend the rest of his life behind bars if he is convicted on those charges brought forward by the justice departments. Thank you. Talk to me about the balancing test. On one hand we have the Attorney General saying they needed all evidence to keep him detained, its all about protecting Donald Trump, mitigating the risk against him, then you have Tim Jordan and the House Judiciary committee saying you have a strong history of not releasing manifestoes. This is going to inspire copycats. Right now . I think the chairman of the judiciary has a great point, as does the Attorney General who said this was pretty sensational. I am paraphrasing what he said, but it begs the question was it furthering the case that they need that little piece of evidence, or was he inciting others at a time when the threat to Donald Trump and his family, could it be any higher . Its off the charts. It seems sensational, illtimed, didnt seem necessary and i think it was wrong for them to release that part of that manifesto. Lets talk about the term necessary that the congressman just used. There are ways to submit things into evidence without releasing it to the public. There are many avenues afforded to the Attorney General that could have if needed again for an evidentiary purpose to protect Donald Trump, to lead this guy in detention. He could have done it without releasing it to the public. Without a doubt. Bill barr said there was more than enough evidence to keep Ryan Routh detained. To your point, he pointed out that you can redact information thats inflammatory. Bill barr said succinctly that it serves no purpose other than to risk inciting further violence. We got to know more about these tips that came into the government. There were four tips about this individual. The Doj And Fbi have discovered a book, self published book where he calls for the assassination of president Donald Trump. Its easy to be a Monday Morning quarterback, but we need to know more. This is more fbi. About the tips that came in and how in the future maybe we can take those a little more seriously. It reminds me that there have been a lot of celebrities through the years who have publicly called for the assassination of preside President Trump. They defend it by saying i didnt mean it. It was comedy, and we heard the line from the secret Service Leadership was always is the threat actionable . Do we take it seriously . Part of that reassuring the public was supposed to on the flip side let us know that if there was actionable threats, indeed they had identified it. Now we have a Suspect Fbi and doj, a suspect secret Service Leadership telling us to trust them. The answer is we dont. We dont trust them. I cant get over the fact keep talking but the second Assassination Attempt against former president Donald Trump. The second when we know there are threats to his life, we know theres a lot of people who want him harmed and we know the iranian government wants him harmed and is operating inside the united states. These are continuing and pressing threats. Wise Bounty Letter needed to be shown you could even make the remark that there is a Bounty Letter without making it so sensationalized. I agree in pointing out that my colleague at Hudson Institute former Attorney General said that he was gob smacked by it, it doesnt make sense at all. I think hes a good judge of this. Good barometer. My question would be to you, if its okay, emily. Whats normal . You gave us instances of what the options are, but how outside the norm is releasing a letter like this . There is nothing normal about this Attorney General, as its been operating, under this administ
