Fears of a Widening Conflict after iran unleashed a barrage of one 180 missiles on israel. The aerial assault swiftly prompting israel to promise retaliation, which could, of course, push The Middle East closer to a region wide war. There is no war in The Middle East. Israel cannot reach. Theres nowhere we will not go to protect our people and protect our country. Hello, everyone. Im jonathan hunt, live in Los Angeles with our ongoing coverage of the crisis in The Middle East. The u. S. Helped Israel Defeat Irans Attack by intercepting about a dozen missiles while Israels Defense systems took down most of the rest of those missiles. Irans escalation in The Middle East became a big Talking Point at the first and only Vice President ial debate. Both tim Walz And J. D. Vance trying to make the case their ticket is best suited to calm tensions in The Middle East. You saw it Experience Today where along with our israeli partners and our coalition, able to stop the incoming attack. But whats fundamental here is that steady leadership is going to matter. We have to remember that as much as Governor Walz just accused Donald Trump of being an agent of chaos, Donald Trump actually delivered stability in The World, and he did it by establishing effective deterrence. It was, as we mentioned, the first and only Vice President ial debate. It covered a wide range of key issues, but escalating violence in The Middle East obviously loomed large over the policy discussion. Correspondent Jeff Paul is here with us in studio with the details. Hello, jeff. Hey, jonathan. Well, the Vp Debate touched on the economy, border security, Climate Change and many other topics, but it was irans widespread Missile Attack on israel that got the night going. Walls pointed to the bidenharris Administrations Leadership that helped israel stop, in part, the incoming strikes, he said. Trump, on the other hand, makes The World more dangerous. Vance responded by saying trump delivered stability in The World and his strength as president prevented major conflicts from breaking out. People were afraid of stepping out of line. Iran, which launched this attack, has received over 100 Billion in unfrozen assets. Thanks to the Kamala Harris administration. What are they use that money for . They use it to buy weapons that theyre now launching against our allies. It was Donald Trump who we had a coalition of nations that had boxed irans nuclear program in the inability to advance it. Donald trump pulled that program and put nothing else in its place. So iran is closer to a nuclear weapon than they were before because of Donald Trumps fickle leadership. Now, the fact that moderators chose to start the debate on this topic speaks to the concerns many americans have over a potential wider regional conflict developing in The Middle East jonathan. Jeff, you you are just back from israel yourself. A marathon six week stint, i think it was over there. Youve spent a lot of time since October 7th last year over there. I wonder what the impression that you got of the people of israel. How much they stand behind the government in prosecuting not just the war in gaza, but now a war against hezbollah In Lebanon and obviously a growing conflict with iran. I think theres sort of two sides of israel. You see one here, an american, one you see there in israel. And on the ground in israel, you see many israelis pretty much protesting their current government. I mean, they really want to get the hostages back home. And its something that they feel that often gets forgotten about every time we talk about a pending Peace Deal coming together or theres going to be some sort of Prisoner Exchange for the remaining hostages. I mean, there are you know, one night when i was there just a couple of weeks ago, upwards of 100,000 people out throughout the streets, throughout Tel Aviv, protesting to try to push the Prime Minister to make a deal, to bring the hostages home. Now, you have another sort of distraction. I guess it would be whats going on in the north with hezbollah and whats going on now with iran. So, again, i think its going to be really tough for a lot of these families and a lot of the israelis impacted by what happened on October 7th because they are trying to get those hostages. The remaining ones back home to where they belong. And it is you know, thats a really good point. It is easy to move the the focus from those hostages when were talking about a region wide war. Really interesting, jeff, could you stick around for a couple of minutes . I just want to bring in nate. Point out that the iranian attack and the israeli response to it witnessed firsthand by all of our correspondents in israel, among them, nate, who joins us now live from Tel Aviv on what is now wednesday morning. Good morning to you, nate. Hey, jonathan. Good morning. So, yeah, its a new day here in israel. Sirens are already blaring in the north and israeli airstrikes are continuing In Lebanon. But as you and jeff were just talking about, The Big Story is the direct conflict between iran and israel. Prior to last night, the two exchanged direct fire only once before, back in april, after israel attacked an iranian consulate in damascus, syria. After that, iran launched ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, but not nearly as many as they did last night. Over 180 ballistic missiles raining down on southern and central Tel Aviv, as you see right here on your screen. Many of them were shot down. Some of them were not. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the u. S. Did help israel in defending themselves from this attack. Israel is promising to respond. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that iran will pay for the attack. And prior to the attack, the biden administration said that there would be consequences for iran if they directly attacked israel. Now, i want to show you just minutes before this actually happened last night, Take A Look at this next video. There was a Terror Attack in jaffa in Tel Aviv. Police had to respond to this scene and immediately had to deal with two emergencies at once. Take a look at this. Literally minutes before iran launched its ballistic Missile Attack, people riding a train like this through the Jaffa Area of Tel Aviv got to this stop. The doors opened and two terrorist opened fire with an automatic rifle. They killed six people and injured nine more. I mean, you can see the storefronts here have arabic and hebrew. Theres a mosque right here behind me. Its known for tourism, but the terrorists chose to terrorize our civilians here. They had an update on the numbers, jonathan, this morning. We now know that seven people were killed in that attack, 17 injured. Those numbers could still change as those 17 injured people continue to hopefully recover. Now, The Big Question remains, what happens next . And iran promises that if israel retaliates, which it did back in april, then more attacks will be coming here to israel. So well wait and see what the israeli government decides to do and then in turn, what iran would do in response to that. Well send it Back To You. And nate, i know there was this Cabinet Meeting in israel late tuesday night. Your time weakening. Any indications from that on what the israeli action will be . We know its obviously going to come. Are they going to be looking at military targets in iran . Are they going to look at the nuclear facilities that iran has . Are they going to target the leadership in iran . Do we have any clues at all at this point . Nate . I would say that the nuclear facilities and the Oil Facilities are to obvious targets, but the israeli Government Hasnt explicitly stated exactly what theyre going to do. You mentioned they did meet the War Cabinet did actually in their Jerusalem Bunker for the first time yesterday. So, you know, when we look back to april, there were several days in between when israel decided exactly what its response would be. We could anticipate a similar thing playing out here. Theyre not going to rush this decision. Theyre going to be calculated. They know that the united states does not want them to strike iran in a way that could spark a regional war. But as weve seen here, especially in the past two weeks, israels emboldened right now and they have really stacked up a whole bunch of successful campaigns here in the past two weeks. You think back it was two weeks ago when the Pager Explosions happened. Then they take out nasrallah. They launch the Ground Invasion. Its crazy how many things are happening all at once. The Ground Invasion technically started last night in the early morning hours of yesterday, although the israeli officials told us yesterday as well that special units have actually been into Southern Lebanon several times throughout the war leading up to that. So, yeah, well have to wait and see. Jonathan. Yeah. Nate, let me bring Jeff Paul back in here. Jeff, you were there in april, The Last Time iran fired a barrage of missiles. I think it was about 100 last time. 180 this time. This seemed to be of a different magnitude to aprils attack, which was also launched in large part by drones. That took a long, long time to get there. Very different with ballistic missiles raining down. Yeah, obviously a lot less time to get to a shelter. And i think last time it was a little bit more public what they were going to do. I think the united states had an idea of the scope of the attack. It was roughly 300 projectiles, you know, whether it was drones ,missiles and rockets. But, you know, in this case, obviously, you know, youve got about 10 to 12 minutes to get to a shelter. So a much different feeling at the time. Their response, Israels Response was very interesting. They hit just outside of like a nuclear building, a facility out there. And basically the message at the time, because some people said, oh, this is so insignificant, but it was the Message Israel was trying to send to iran that they can hit those facilities. This time they didnt, but they can hit those facilities anytime, anywhere. They want. And that was sort of the message last time. This time, though, obviously probably upped the ante. Yeah. Jeff, great to have your experience here in studio with us. Thank you. And nate foy, to you in Tel Aviv, thank you so much. We will be Back To You, nate, throughout the next 3 hours. Now, as tension grows in The Middle East, Vice President ial hopefuls tim Walz And J. D. Vance battled it out. In what weve been telling you was the first and only debate before the election. They were asked about everything from the middle East Hurricane Helene to reproductive rights and the economy. Kamala harris is day one. Was Donald Trumps failure on covid that led to the collapse of our economy. We were already before covid in a in a manufacturing recession, but 10 Million people out of work, largest percentage since the great depression. But again, its something that these guys do, is they make a lot of claims about if Donald Trump becomes president , all of these terrible consequences are going to ensue. But in reality, Donald Trump was president , inflation was low. Take Home Pay was higher. Joining us now, our political panel, democratic consultant julian epstein. As well as Fox News Contributor and Visiting Fellow at the heritage foundation, karen skinner. Great to see you both. We all are always so grateful to have you with us at these times of great import and historical import. Before we get to the debate ,guys would love to get your thoughts on what comes next in The Middle East. Thats a huge question, of course. But julian, let me come to you first. Where do you think we go from here . Well, i think the first thing is that the biden administration has to give its unconditional support for whatever israel decides it needs to do. The policy of Diplomacy And Deescalation has failed. Hamas has killed us. The u. S. Hostages, hezbollah has lobbed over 10,000 rockets into israel and the houthis have shut down the red sea. The biden Administration Policy of Diplomacy And Deescalation. I think iran looks at that and sort of plays the biden administration, the west for fools. What israel should do right now, given that irans rockets are a declaration of war, is they should cut the head off of the snake. I mean, i think this is an opportunity for israel to go after the oil fields, the nuclear capability and the drone capability. I think the only way you end this thing and avoid more civilian casualties is if you create a prohibitive cost on iran. Who is puppeteering all of these Proxy Armies throughout the region . Israel is being attacked from five or six different directions. The only way to do this is to make iran pay a serious price. And this is the golden opportunity to do that. Yeah, that would seem to be very true, kyra, on that. This is the opportunity that netanyahu has here to really do some damage to iran, to really put it in a box from which it cannot get out or will not want to. Do you think israel will do that . I believe that It Will, because as youve just said, julian and nates excellent reporting, this is a unique moment for israel of the Twilight War or Shadow War between iran and israel, between iran and the united states really began after 1979 with the iranian revolution. Its been a war thats been going on in the shadows for so long that sometimes we forget how kinetic it can be, how much damage the iranian regime has done, the problems of the theocracy internally and throughout the region, and the extensive network of militias that it has supported and created. And some have gotten beyond what the irgc would ever want them to do. Given all of this, somehow israel has survived and it has survived since october seventh ,and it is on the march. This is a unique moment in which it should strike against the iranian regime. Thats very difficult to say. No one wants a wider a regional war. But newsflash, were already in one. And this is in part due to the lack of leadership in the united states. This will have to be where it was now. Right. And julian, talking of talking of leadership. So we saw two Vice President ial candidates on the Debate Stage. We got plenty of time over the next couple of hours to talk about domestic policy. So lets stay with the international stage. Did you see either of them as somebody who americans could see in the Situation Room as president , god forbid, if they ever had to take over the presidency because of some awful circumstance . But did you see either of them as a potential commander in chief tonight . Yes. I mean, look, neither of them answered the question on whether israel should be given complete support if they want to take a preemptive strike in iran, although j. D. Vance was clear that we should support iran unconditionally. But look, i think waltz did as well as he could. But vance is sort of just a class above. He is extremely polished. He is probably the highest Iq Member of congress, in my opinion, are amongst the highest. And it was a masterclass in debate that he showed tonight and his Proficiency And Polish On The Issues i just think is second to none. I think, you know, moderate republican us who are undecided on this election. Look at that Debate Tonight and they say they wish he was sort of at the top of the ticket. But i think j. D. Vance would get the edge if you were asking the question as to who looked more President Ial tonight. Yeah, karen, it struck me watching them that neither of them was at their most comfortable in talking ing about The Middle East. These are two gentlemen who are not steeped in foreign affairs. It struck me tonight i didnt quite see it that way with j. D. Vance. I think he knows what hes doing. Hes giving speeches and as writings about The Middle East and his commitment to israel in particular. He doesnt want to see a wider war, but he understands the dilemmas that israel and the west face at this particular moment. So im confident that he will make a fine Vice President that will support the president. President trump, on bringing an end to the conflicts around The World with while i was a bit surprised in that same it gave me pause when he talked about pulling out of the Iran Nuclear Deal by President Trump as the reason for this present conflict. Hes not connecting the dots. The maximum Pressure Campaign did put iran in a box and the biden administration just delivered billions of dollars now to the iranian regime, which it has used to fund. Its menacing around the globe. All right, karen and julian, im delighted to let our viewers know that you will be without with us throughout the next couple of hours or so. So well go over much more of the debate and domestic politics over those next couple of hours. For the moment. The world is on high alert, waiting to see how israel will react to Irans Attack. Could we see an all out war in The Middle East . Although, as cameron says, maybe were in it already. More on all of that next.
