By Brad Jennings SaskTel Centre could soon be home to a statue of another prolific Saskatchewan hockey player. A request has been made to city council to install a statue of Fred Sasakamoose one of the first Indigenous NHL players, and the first NHL player with treaty status. Sasakamoose passed away with COVID-19 in November at the age of 86 due to complications from COVID-19. The application is being made by The Dakota Dunes Community Development Corporation , Battleford Agency Tribal Chiefs and Synergy 8 Community Builders. The statue would be donated by the group and is valued at around $180,000. The proposed location for the statue would be at the main entrance of SaskTel centre opposite and facing the Gordie Howe statue. If the city agrees the Fred Sasakamoose Commemorative statue would tentatively be installed in October.
